jpts AUDuring the 1980s, there were some taxi companies in Australia that were still using taxi cabs from the 1970s.

MisterZ AUIn HD, we can see the plate starts with "ASA" which was issued in early 1980. This means it's not a [VH]. Looks like a [VB] - the tail lights don't have the horizontal black strip through the middle. This one has been modified with bigger wheel arches, to try and look like a HDT.

Exiv96 BEThat D-pillar vent with the three grooves appeared in August 1983. 2021-06-18 03:35
cheesey AUJust watched this movie on the weekend and I haven't seen it since probably the 1980s.
Does anyone know about the scene that is playing on the tv in Malcolm's bedroom? He is making something and he has got the tv on.(The tv that frank gave him)
It looks like a chase scene between a VK Commodore and a mazda rx7.
Just wondering if this was just done for the movie or taken from something else?

Z2 AU@marioman3138 - I think this might actually just be a Torana 1900 S. There's no Sunbird badge on the side, and it lacks the trim/Holden logo above the grille that was unique to Sunbirds. One Sunbird feature it does have though is the body-coloured grille, which makes it a bit confusing.

Z2 wrote 1981+ and built in Australia. The plate on this car is very unusual - it looks like black lettering on a white background, possibly with a red letter/digit at the start and end. At the time this movie was made, no state in Australia had such a plate type.

I think the red letter is a bit of motion blur. I think its just white with black lettering.

Z2 AULooks like late 1977+ as I can just make out the newer green on white plate, and the wipers appear to be black. 2020-09-14 21:35

Z2 AUI see chrome trim on the rear door/window frame, so I'm going to say Kingswood. As such, it can be grouped with this other 1 star entry: /vehicle_163982-Holden-Kingswood-HQ-1973.html

MisterZ AUMazda "Traveller" (passenger version):

Only one on the site so far. Technically, these were E-1800s since they only came with the 1.8L petrol engine (E-Series cargo vans could be had with a larger 2.0L engine or even a diesel). However, in 1987, a 4WD version of the Traveller was introduced which had the 2.0L engine. These vans are pretty rare - the Ford Spectron twin was much more popular.

I'm unsure if we should list this as just "Traveller", or "E-1800 Traveller"? Note: plate CCP on this one was issued in January 1985, but this would mean a 1984 build date.

marioman3138 AUIt'a JB (1982 to 1984)
the models were SL, SL/X, SL/E. The SL/E had nicer wheels, ruling it out.
This car has chrome trim around the tail lights, making it SL/X. I'd bet money on it (Got the original dealer brocuhre sitting on my lap).

MisterZ AUDid Melbourne have age limits on taxis in those days? This taxi is very old to still be in use in 1986. These days, there's a 6.5 year age limit on taxis (note: age limit was abolished in 2016).

Edit: I forgot that they built the HZ until early 1980. If it's a 79/80 model then it's not unreasonable that it'd still be in use in 1985 (when this was filmed).
