Exiv96  | My mum did buy a Venga, and got it in December 2018. It's a 1.6 litre "World Edition" - basically the only trim level left - with automatic gearbox. It drives OK, but the steering is way too light for my taste, and it's a concern at highway speeds. Fuel economy isn't great either. Four years later, it's still there, with various dents and scratches. It's quite solid nevertheless, as one day my mum got dazzled by a low winter sun, didn't see a narrowing pavement chicane and drove over it. I live nearby and actually heard the bang! She got a flat tire but didn't notice the wheelarch inside trim was gone. Anyway, the Venga survived and got repaired. |

dsl  | While knowing absolutely nothing about your mum, I can see a Venga or ix20 being strong candidates. I had a rental Venga for 2 months/3000 miles - very easy to live with, relaxing to drive, comfortable, economical, everything works efficiently with no complications, well made and good warranty (7 years in UK). No sporty characteristics, so stodgier and more sedate than a Ceed or a Note for instance, but if you're not looking for the ability to have zoomy moments it doesn't matter. |

| Exiv96 | I've sat in a Venga last week, and it's clearly an MPV. A small one, but an MPV nonetheless. My mother's Mitsubishi Colt (the dutch one, itself a mini MPV) was totaled recently, and she's been trying to find something similar to replace it. But the mini MPV category is disappearing fast, due to the current outbreak of SUV-itis. The Colt is gone. So are the Ford B-Max, the Renault Modus, The Opel Meriva and the Toyota Verso-S. The latest Nissan Note isn't sold in Europe, and the Mercedes A-Class is now a Golf-sized hatchback. Which leaves the Honda Jazz, Kia Venga & Hyundai ix20. And compared to the Rios in the Kia showroom, the Venga is definitely in another class, dimensions wise. It's also a european design, even german, according to the usual sources. |
