AEA 735T was a fake plate, never issued in period, despite some of the info in this quote "Registration - AEA 735T This registration was first registered during the period August 1978 to July 1979. First registered in Dudley. Where is it now? - History unknown. This Bedford Van was known to be around the Nottinghamshire area for many years after filming, with many people remembering seeing it and it being for sale in the late 80s early 90s. Sadly after many attempts to try and track it down, we have had no luck. We have confirmation from Anglo American Filming Vehicles who supplied this van that AEA 735T was a false number plate". However, We've identified this vehicle using the details you provided BEDFORD 6 CWT HAE 1981 Registration number: AEA 735T Body type: Car Derived Van Colour: White Date of first registration: February 1981 ✓ SORN ✗ MOT Expired: 9 October 2020 Date of last V5C (logbook) issued 11 October 2019 So there is a white HA van now legitimately wearing AEA 735T, presumably the shiny resto(?) seen above. Leaving aside the question of what plate adorned the film van in Nottinghamshire during 80s and 90s if AEA 735T was a screen fake, I guess the resto owner was able to apply to DVLA with some special pleading to get AEA 735T for his 1981 HA. Looking at the pics then and now - the film car has rampant tinworm enjoying a feast, so does not look as if it would have survived much longer in normal use. Apart from the unusual over-riders, it looks like a normal mid/late 70s onwards black grille HA with black wipers - they did not visibly change much during 20 years production 1963-83. Seems to have a screen pillar aerial, a hole on the door where a mirror might have fallen off, and the white around one headlight may well be filler. The shiny resto(?) has a different large mirror further forward, which is probably accurate for 81 plate date, and a new pristine front panel. Either it's a resto, or a replica based on another HA which was probably in much better nick as a base to work from. Or it's a re-shell. The question of whether this is the same van is difficult as the original film van was a fake ID so didn't officially exist, and can't be properly identified. Given the state it was in for filming (ep 2.02 was broadcast in Feb 86) it was clearly ancient by then - HA vans rusted easily, but it looks older than 5 years compared to the 81 plate date. Conclusion - the shiny one is probably a replica, nicely presented. And it may be the first HA to legitimately wear the AEA 735T plates. If it's actually the film car after an extensive resto, then there are inconsistencies for both the plate history and some of the visible detail then and now. The only person who really knows would be its creator. |

| richard davies | Supposedly this van is still around, but a check on the DVLA site shows a 1981 van currently using this registration, which seems to have been a mocked up one as the AEA series of Dudley registrations were issued as an S reg (1977-8). All suggests someone has managed to get AEA735T issued as a personalised plate for their slightly later van, which is currently off the road with SORN declared. |
