Z2 ![]() | Looks like 1976+ side strip, see: /vehicle.php?id=589546 Looks like base "Deluxe" trim as it lacks the vinyl roof. |

dsl ![]() | Good - made in Aus now confirmed for local Transits (Mk1 at least). Some back-filling to do for Aus films. | 2014-03-23 16:51
chris40 ![]() | Yes, it would. I wasn't aware of the use of 6-cylinder engines in Australia, but having driven several British Transits with V4s and Kent petrol engines I wish we'd had them. | 2014-03-23 15:54
MisterZ ![]() | The Australian Transit vans were mostly fitted with 6-cylinder engines borrowed from the Falcon. This started in 1973 with the 3.3L I6 which was optional. In 1975, it became the only engine available. Then, in 1979, the 4.1 replaced the 3.3 as the only engine offering. I guess that would explain the long bonnet? | 2014-03-23 14:24
dsl ![]() | ... or ice-cream van. Of course, if Transits were made in Aus, then long-nose petrol versions are perfectly credible as a local variation (and we have several long-noses sighted in Aus. I haven't checked, but I don't think we have (m)any Aus short noses ...). | 2014-03-23 12:24
chris40 ![]() | It's definitely a Diesel front panel. Petrol-engined Mk.I Transits used a V4 engine, but the Perkins and later York Diesels were longer and needed this extended nose. (The only other reason for this front panel was if a V6 was fitted, which was normal in ambulances but seems unlikely in a school bus.) -- Last edit: 2014-03-23 09:29:17 |

MisterZ ![]() | 1982+ [RB] "GSR" trim due to alloy wheels & stripe, and blacked out window frames (regular Colts would adopt these black frames in the 1984 [RC] update). Note: we can assume this is a brand-new 1983 model, since it hasn't even been registered yet (no plate). -- Last edit: 2020-07-04 00:57:39 |

MisterZ ![]() | Why diesel? I'm pretty sure that all Transits sold in Australia in the 70s were petrol. Redbook doesn't list any diesel models at all. -- Last edit: 2014-03-23 06:40:43 |

MisterZ ![]() | Ford "Galaxie LTD" in Australia, not just LTD. According to Wikipedia, they were fully imported and converted to RHD locally. Very few were sold - only about 600 per year. They were very expensive and catered to wealthy buyers, the kind of people who might buy say, a Mercedes E400 today. They were also popular with the Commonwealth Government. They were sold in 1973 as well, because the Australian Falcon-derived LTD was not introduced until August of that year. -- Last edit: 2019-12-16 02:30:35 |

electra225 ![]() | I rather think a 1980-81 for the fact that the rear window could easilier be the slightly larger one of the previous 2 door sedan version, which was superseded in May 1981 for the 3 door hatchback type. Anyway I can't be sure with such a picture. A shot of the rear should be welcome ! |
