maddog80 USWell this is a little confusing. That is the grille from a '75 Catalina but the Catalina still had round headlights in '75. Rectangular ones were an option on the '76 Catalina but not the '75 model. 2016-04-23 15:58

wkeith442 USHey all

I own a 71 442 in this color and trim combination, as far as can be seen (same stipes). The only difference is added the factory mags, mine came with hubcaps. Mine also has bench front bench seat. I’ve owned it over 30 years and bought it from the original owners whom I grew up with.

fsebus FRNew Flyer?

CougarTim a écrit 1972-1973 Safari or Grand Safari

Is it just a trick of the light, or does this wagon have a vinyl roof? That would incline me towards a Grand.

It very well could be a vinyl top, as that was an option on the higher end clamshell wagons. I had a '76 Grand Safari with a darker color painted top and it had the trim used on the cars with vinyl.

Commander 57 USYou also have to be careful with Google Image as MANY of the vehicles are mis-labeled, sometimes grossly.
Old Cars Brochures is quite useful but there are many gaps.
Was not aware of the Canadian site. Thanks.

(My interest and knowledge doesn't stray much beyond the US border!)
2010-07-17 23:12
CougarTim USIn this case, http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/main.php?g2_itemId=68344 (the Laurentian Safari is not illustrated, but is listed in the text)

Old Car Brochures is a very useful resource, but they don't have a whole lot of Canadian brochures. Canadian Poncho has more Canadian brochures linked in this thread but not a whole lot from the mid 1970s. I also use Google image search, but it's hard to find good pictures of these wagons.

Commander 57 USI appreciate your attention to detail, Tim.
What are your primary sources?
2010-07-17 22:41
CougarTim USIt's not my picture, just one I found on the internet to illustrate my point.

It might be a 1972, but in 1972 the 442 was demoted from being a model in its own right to being an option package available on the Cutlass S and Cutlass Supreme. I stand by 1971 though, since it does not appear to have the 1972 style hood stripe and it is IMCDb's convention to use the earliest possible year.
2010-07-17 22:34
CougarTim US1975-1976. It does not appear to have the grille of either 1975 full-size wagon. Since this was filmed in Canada, there are three possible 1976 wagons: Laurentian Safari, Catalina Safari, and Grand Safari. It appears to have round headlights in square bezels, which rules out Grand Safari. The Catalina has a bit more trim than the Laurentian, but I can't see the side here. 2010-07-17 22:20
CougarTim US1972-1973 Safari or Grand Safari

Is it just a trick of the light, or does this wagon have a vinyl roof? That would incline me towards a Grand.
