rpcm PTI also think it's a 504 because of the size of the sidelights versus the indicators. The 304 front indicators and sidelights have a share of 50% each and that's not what is seen here. The iluminated sidelight area is typical of a 504, having a larger area occupied by the indicator. 2007-03-20 18:41
bref FRChromed side trim on 304, not on 504. I still believe it is a 504, even if the picture does not help :D 2007-03-20 09:14
DIEHARD NLI also vote 304 2007-03-20 07:53
buickestate CAin my youth my dad had a 75 304 cabriolet, the 504's head lights have a slightly different shape to them, not as verticle on the outter edge like the 304's.

DynaMike NLI think I can agree with Buickestate, because of the proportions head lights vs grille... But in fact it looks more like an impressionist painting ;) 2007-03-17 23:56

Citsa ZAThis is indeed a ZA built car, hence the new type doorhandles and a white roof. On French-built cars the roof was the same colour as the body when the new doors were introduced (1972 - on). Reynolds' book is not very accurate when it comes to SA production. 2007-03-08 01:42

DIEHARD NLI have checked out a source, the book "The original Citroën DS" by John Reynolds. He states that in some years only 45% of all RSA DS's where assembled locally. Maybe that is too little to obtain the title locally produced. Also the differences where minor on the local assembled cars. So perhaps we should keep the origin to France.... 2007-01-26 19:48
Jun JPJapanese cars of those days were more narrow.
(the tax rises when the displacement exceeds 2000cc, or length & width exceeds 4700mm/1700mm in japan)

*In this movie, Peugeot504 is 1690mm width. japanese car looks same or narrow ;)

car nerd USI think it's most likely Japanese. There was a Mazda from the mid 70's - a large sedan RX4 I believe. Unfortunately many Japanese cars of this period looked alike :wow:

antp BEit seems that it has a smaller grille than the R30 (i.e. that does not fill the complete space between headlights), though it is hard to see on this picture 2007-01-12 14:19
mm CHMakes me think of Renault R30, too.

Seems to be a younger version, as it looks like the part around the lights was not chromed for the old nones, but dark.

Look, not French-made,but locally made in ZA by Sigma Motor Corp.(a ZA joint-venture thru Mazda,Mitsubishi,Peugeot and Chrysler ZA,set up in 1977)in a unique trim,SR,based still on 1st series 305 coque

PS That car was listed on a car annual of my collection since 1980 issue,so believe production in ZA was started some years later of European launch--1978--so 1979 circa(1985 issue listed it for the last time, believe, due at later breaking of Sigma Motors'joint-venture)

PS Sigma Motor Corp.will assembly also other Peugeots, the 504(Saloon and Wagon,or better"Stasiewa"as said in Afrikaans idiom on sales literature)and 505(only Saloon)

Last were renamed as Export GTA(had body lookalike 1980 Alfasud 3a serie)

PS ARSA(Alfa Romeo South Africa)was noticeable also for ZA-made Daihatsu Charades(since 1983)and some Fiat cars,like 125 and 132

Gag Halfrunt UKIf you look at the entry for the DS, you'll see that it's right hand drive and there's a 'Parking' sign in the background. So this is South Africa. What's more, the IMDB says the film was a Netherlands/South Africa co-production, but lists only Cape Town and Johannesburg as filming locations.
