montrosepatriot USLincoln-Mercury dealerships were the official importers of the European Ford Capri - Mercury division handled the sales although it shared showroom space with the rest of the L-M limeup (USA market was imported from West Germany but did not have any Ford badging - hood panel has the Capri lettering in lieu of Ford and front lighting was 4 sealed beams (similar to the Capri 3000GT) - the square headlights on the European Capri were illegal for use in the USA since it did not meet FMVSS 108 (replaceable bulbs were illegal for sale in the USA until 1983 - as of 2016 a European Capri can be imported into the USA since the 1998 DOT rule change concerning classic imports 25+ yrs old) 2016-04-23 12:20

dsl SXThere were various UK aftermarket swoopy hardtops like this for MGB and Sprite/Midget - eg Ashley, Sebring - so it's possible something similar marketed for Datsun in US. As the car was never sold in UK, this is guesswork. 2011-07-11 16:01
