I would assume that this scene is set in Rome.
Quote Amedeo is a poor Italian immigrant living in Australia for twenty years. Seeking to marry an Italian wife, he corresponds with Carmela, a pretty girl from Rome. They do not reveal their true identities and do not mention their hardships in their letters. Carmela is actually a prostitute seeking an opportunity to change her life style.

Gag Halfrunt UKAppears to be left hand drive, with a white steering wheel, so not made in or for Australia. 2018-12-03 13:27

rjluna2 wrote Probably converted, since no factory convertible available for Australia market...

of course, there is a fake steering wheel to make it a right hand drive for movie theme, car is a Le Mans Sprint 1967 4 speed.

Ray Bell AUWal Hadley initially worked in the Nota Engineering workshop in Smith Street, Parramatta. I remember seeing him converting an early-sixties Chev into a hearse there. He also had a go at making Clubman Sports Cars for racing, but his initial efforts were thwarted by unhappy handling problems. 2018-01-26 13:44

electra225 ITvaliant 1962 is right: it is likely the Aussie built clone of the US '53 Ford. 2010-03-07 08:35
valiant1962 AUI think it could be an Australian built 1958 Customline. The Australian 1958 models used the US 56 grille with a V shaped centre badge added. They also used a combination of Canadian and US side trim. Customlines were unique to Australia in 57 and 58, as we didn't get the US 57 and 58 models.
The US 59's were assembled here from kits, again using Canadian grilles for 60 and 61. In 62-64 we got the US 62-64 Galaxie in small numbers and the 62-64 Fairlane. For 65-66 we only got Galaxies, and from 67 we got the first Australian Fairlanes, based on US 66-67 Fairlanes, but again with unique grilles. Galaxies finished here in 71, and the Australian Fairlanes continued until 2007, based on the Australian Falcon.

an_unusual_eye UScorrect. 1967. the chrome trim that runs across the top of the grilles dips for the center divider then comes back up to continue its run all the way to the other side as one piece. on the '66 the trim is in two halves... as in - the right side piece runs from the top right to the center, then down, and turns back to run back to the bottom right. 2010-02-28 16:26
