Weasel1984 PLExactly 1966, as in the 1965 it still had the old grill.
The model name since 1962 was 1000.

Ralph DE[quote=DAF555I think both views carry equally vital information, but we need to make a distinction to avoid arguments and confusion of facts.

Du hast recht, es ist nicht so einfach
You are right, it is not simply or easy.

generally:
I need the oldest first production-Year (December/59 = 1959) I love old cars :-)

exception:
US-Cars with 1-year production (1952 Chevrolet Styleline or somethings)
Facelift model with "Modelyear" dating from Manufacturer or today's classification from Carclubs
2006-11-29 21:33
DAF555 SEI think both views carry equally vital information, but we need to make a distinction to avoid arguments and confusion of facts.
Facts are that these Opels were introduced summer of -57 and production ran until summer of -60. Mostly it´s hard to see any external differencces of them, unless they have 4-doors or the 1700 badge in the rear. The latter ones are all of the last years production.
So they were built during four different calendar years, but to the market they were available as three modelyears. 1958,1959 or 1960.
Each modelyear might be identified from details, or maybe from the facts given by our national vehicle registrys. Be observant to what they state though.

So by changing the status of our current field "Year" to "Modelyear" this feld can be used for either first possible MY or the correct one if it can be defined.
More important of my suggestion is the addition of fields for the production years, this will of course satisfy the whish to be correct about when the car was first available. But I think the most important benefit of having this year range for production will come when, if possible, it is connected to our search function.

first of all: cheers! ...about this debate now[Image: table.gif] I won't be very long, so excuse me if give my opinion here rather than on the forum.

I agree with Richard, there is no truth and this question of modelyear/building year is just a convention! But it seems to me that most of the admins found agreement on the choice of using "Modelyear" for dating the models and not the Building date... so why should we change? :)

But I´d be happy to hear some constructive thoughts on the basic issue, years and how to regard them. This "conflict" is in a dead end. Neither view is wrong and both can´t be squeezed into one field as we have it now.

Jeder Opel Sammler spricht beim P3 vom '57 Rekord.

Arguments about this leads nowhere, that´s why I suggested some changes on the subject. Did you bother to read it?
You´re probably right about that the oldest cars of this kind stand as 1957 in the german registry under the term Baujahr, buildingyear, that´s not the same thing. Vehicle registrys often don´t care about else than year of manufacture.
It´s evident that the term modelljahr was used even if you refuse to acknowledge that fact.

Well, even in Germany the term Modelljahr is known:

[Image: rekordp17mt3.6347.jpg][Image: rekordp18ra7.2219.jpg]

So I think if you asked the customers of the time, they would say that they bought a 1958 car even if they had delivery in september -57. The yearfield we have here is meant for Modelyear, even if it states only Year. I´ve put down some thoughts and suggestions on the subject at the forum: Link to "forum.imcdb.org"

Quote Parts of the movie were shot in East Germany, which was quite unusual for a West German TV production at that time.
