2491tj ![]() | update dec 2018...all the Kubels which get blown up in the movie are replicas...the kubel which chases the JU52 at the end of the movie (and does not get damaged) is a genuine 1944 example and is the only Kubel survivor from the movie. Located in the Uk the vehicle was UK road registered in September 2009 as "850XUU" and is described as a "beige 1944 VW", it is currently off road,garaged in the uk, on a SORN | 2018-12-26 23:16

kenbrookes ![]() | Why is no one outraged by the plowing of a row of vintage motorcycles? I would be interested in a list of the models sacrificed. Could their current value exceed the movie’s budget? Probably with the addition of all vehicles lost. |

ed8101 ![]() | I question the ID of the bus -- As far as I can see it is a Mack. A model similar to the 43SB, which were primarily sold as school buses in America. A similar model for public transportation was marketed internationally. These buses were sold in the late '30's to early 40's. If nothing else, notice the Mack bulldog hood ornament. | 2016-11-16 07:20

Kooshmeister ![]() | Like the Opel Blitz, this has four headlights. Two beside the grill where I assume this car's normal headlights are supposed to be, and two more on top of either fender. All four are turned on. | 2013-01-02 21:32
Kooshmeister ![]() | Anyone else notice these have four headlights? There's two mounted low on the fenders and two more on top of the fenders. Sometimes an Opel will have the top headlights on, and the bottom ones off, other times it'll be the reverse, but I can't recall a scene where all four were turned on. | 2013-01-02 21:31
2491tj ![]() | (2012 UPDATE)....The fighter planes are actually North american T-6, made by Noorduyn in Canada, the ones you see on screen are from a batch of 40 scrapped by the Swiss Air Force in 1969...originally they were delivered to the RAF in Canada in 1942 and then in 1946 they were all refitted in Holland after being surplussed then they were sold to the Swiss in 1949, they were last used by the Swiss in Jan 1969 when they were scrapped and replaced by the Pilatus P-3. Out of the original Swiss compliment of 40 aircraft, only 3 remain in preservation..all in Germany..the rest being scrapped (some of the then already withdrawn and scrapped planes are what appear in this movie mocked up as FW 190s). -- Last edit: 2012-12-07 22:51:39 |

antp ![]() | "Made for movie" = we cannot identify a make, as it was obviously built for the movie. If it is a known basis that was modified for the movie, we sometimes include 'modified for movie' in the extra info field. Or "custom" in extra info or model name for heavily customized vehicles. |

junkman ![]() | I don't think they made it look any different than the way it was built, save for that DIY paintjob. They just used a non-period bike for filming. We do comment these quite common glitches, but identify the vehicles for what they really are. And this one appears to be a sixties single-cylinder BMW, like you said. Don't ask me what they are called, in my personal nomenclature all BMWs are a Gummikuh (rubber cow). | 2006-05-16 14:45
der.krusche ![]() | so this might mean for listing, there is a difference between: +) a made / built vehicle +) a x-based vehicle in this case: an bike based on a younger BMW for showing an older BMW does not mean *made for ...* right? |
2006-05-16 14:28 | ||
junkman ![]() | No, I wouldn't say so. I think it is -like you said initially- a 60s bike used for filming a WWII movie. Of what I can see in the pic it is very likely a BMW, but I can't tell them apart. Where is Jun? |

hiergehts ![]() | The "fighters" rammed by the bus on the Luftwaffe airfield towards the end of the film are NA Harvards. Alexander ![]() | I would say it is an Austrian 'Saurer SPz A1'. http://www.panzerbaer.de/types/pix/at_spz_a1-001m.jpg It was designed by Saurer and after their takeover by Steyr-Daimler-Puch built from 1958-68 -- as is seems still under the name 'Saurer'. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saurer_%28Panzer%29 |

antp ![]() | the 2-3 stars do not especially depend of main character or not. If a car is well used by a character or in a chase it can get 3 stars ![]() |
2005-09-20 23:04 | ||
| Umbriel | I'm not sure how to propose "star" ratings, but as I big fan of the movie, I can tell you what each of these vehicles should receive -- The Gräf & Stift bus should get 3 stars, as it's the heroes' getaway vehicle in the climactic chase. The Opel Blitz truck and VW Kübelwagen should get 2 stars, as they turn up in numerous scenes, and chases, but aren't operated by the main characters. The "unknown" staff car should also get two stars, as it is the location of a brief fight scene, but not operated extensively or by any major characters. |
