So my father's ID19 must have had formerly black/silver plates on his car , but I don't remember it...(I was only 6 years old in nov 63), and had change for reflective yellow/white in 1964 or 65 (I didn' even remember why, but it was...)

ingo DEIn West Germany reflective plates were offered since around 1970 - but had been illegal. You got a fine, if the cops have catched you with them. From 1972 onwards it was allowed and an optional extra (for extra costs), in 1989 it became mandatory. 2011-05-24 21:56
dsl SXWas France in 1962 the first country? If so we have a French invention which has changed Europe (or at least the joined up bits). 2011-05-24 21:52

sixcyl FRMuch easier? for having living there during 17 years let me tell you that this highway passing through Lyon (Tunnel de Fourvières/échangeur de Perrache) bread the highest traffic jam level ever seen in the country till the east side highway (contournement Est de Lyon) had been openned (in the mid 90's), by merging on this unique north/south axis big local traffic with huge national and international traffic! 2011-05-24 07:44
DynaMike NLIt made the North-South traffic much easier, but I'm sure they would have been able to find a better solution... 2011-05-24 00:33
