dsl SXI think that despite Monte-like rally plaques, this is actually the 1981 San Remo works entry #11 for Henri Toivonen/Fred Gallagher (NVC 777W), finished 2nd - see comments pictures here and compare the door panel logos above rally numbers and the stickers in the rear and side windows.

Same footage here.

dsl SXFootage from this Pathe-for-BMC promo film of the 1960 rally "Road To Monte Carlo" 2017-02-08 23:32
dsl SX#281 on 1960 Monte Carlo was an MGA driven by Frank James Powell/Desmond Tilley, started from Paris, not listed (as far as I can tell) as a finisher. As Powell was the main driver on the 1960 Tulip for PKG 1 (with SH Ashcroft), I guess this is same car.

If PKG 1 (#YM1/553) was a works or works-assisted entry, it's not listed at this page of significant Twin Cams, although both YM1/551 and YM1/552 are there, plus YM2/554, so 553 was probably significant as a development car of some sort. This seems confirmed by this entry in the MGA Register

Production record - Chassis number YM1 / 553
Type Twin-Cam
Body colour Black
Trim colour Black
Hood colour -

Production finish date 1958-09-01

StuBurgess ENLooking closer at the rally plate, it looks like Monte Carlo with possibly no. 251? Stu. 2017-01-06 12:55
StuBurgess ENThis is YM1 553 Twin Cam Coupe 1958, owned by myself, it has since had a colour change to black, still on the road and looking for as much history as possible. Mr Arthur Hesp was the first person to own the car and was a Goldsmith in Cardiff. Stu Burgess. 2017-01-06 11:26
58TwinCam ENPKG1 (Now has a different rego) is known to be the 1960 Tulip Rally MGA Twin Cam driven by Mr A Hesp.

You can see from the photo, the spare wheel is an MGA Twin Cam Wheel.

Can this car be reclassified as an MGA Twin Cam coupe please.

dsl SXBuilt in secret by Bertone using bits from a used Fulvia 1.6 HF. This footage was apparently 1987 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_oe4vmXbAE . Was Copper when presented at 1970 Turin show, repainted silver (late 70s??) then restored to copper in 2000. Chassis no. dsl SXThis could well be the 1949 Rallye des Alpes Françaises (it looks very Alpine and the car has the right rally plate and style of painted numbers). Several MG TCs entered, and Betty Haig/Barbara Marshall won a Coupe des Alpes. However her car was #36 (or 136) and I can't trace #68, even with the help of a superb silent film segment (well worth watching for some excellent cars - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4a9l-j4ePI ). Also possible this is 47/48/50/51 event instead. 2013-01-30 21:15
dsl SXMay 1958 plate; 1959 or later rally, but no match found. Also at /vehicle.php?id=45443 . Twin Cam coupe version not released till Jan 59.

DIEHARD a écrit It was not that either. There where some severe crashes in the season before. The Rally federation decided to change the rules for rallye cars the next season.

I've wrote about it ;) , of course that it was one of the reasons, but even if the Gr. B wouldn't be canceled this car wouldn't have chances to win in such form/shape, and Citroen would need a completely new, more compact car. At the end of Gr. B even Audi Sport quattro S1 (to which BX was a bit similar) had problems and wasn't competitive to a new generation of rally cars (S4, 205 Evo II).

Weasel1984 a écrit
I agree, that Peugeot wasn't the reason - the 4TC was simply... not good car, the idea was out of date (engine at the front, too big body etc.) - Citroen even if would like, couldn't develop this car and change it to a serious competitor for 205 or Delta. So because the 1986 Acropolis rally was a complete disaster for BX 4TC and everyone already known that Gr. B will be cancelled with new 1987 season, Citroen ended its adventure with rallies.

It was not that either. There where some severe crashes in the season before. The Rally federation decided to change the rules for rallye cars the next season. To put safety on higher standards. Because the 4TC was desgined for the old rules it could not compete any more without changing the majority of parts at the cars. It had nothing to do with a 205 or with the car not preforming well.
By the way the engine they used was the same as from the 505 Turbo. To make it fit the front had been extended.

antp a écrit I have that model auto too.
Recently there were BX4 TC at 1/43th scale in the Altaya collection "Voitures de Rallye" and in the Atlas collection "Passion Citroën" (civilian version).

I have to other model too, it is from Majorette I think. I am still looking for the Atlas and ALtaya though.

Also Italian drivers had driven that "rally-rocket",one of which was Michele Cinotto(but in 1982,when its Quattro(sponsored by R6 cigarettes,so"non-works"private team)was raced into Campionato Italiano Rally;thru ladies, remember Fabrizia Pons(navigator of the French rallywoman Michéle Mouton)that with a "works"Quattro won the 1981 Sanremo Rally

Other Quattro's international teams in 1981:

--BP France(F):green-black-yellow(if recall better, one of them was driven by French rallyman Guy Frequélin at 1981 Montecarlo Rally)

The Quattro won the next year its 1st WRC for the Audi;someone will nickname the car in Italy"the Lady of Rings"(suggested in part by Audi logo, the 4 rings)

Weasel1984 PLThe most significant changes in the appearance of Evo II are: missing of the rear bumper, small "Pirelli" stickers at the rear air intakes (Martini) and new style of "VS Olio Fiat" labels at the front bumper (Martini). Main pic is from the '85 1000 Lakes.
