I like the design, actually, except something about the headlights doesn't quite work for me. Hooper applied same design (or some very similar) to Daimler DE-36 cars around the same era. http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z15970/Daimler-DE36.aspx

DynaMike NLBtw there's a big difference in comfort and technology between theseold 2CVs and modern cars, indeed. Nowadays seats are hard as wood and suspension is almost totally absent. A 2CV from 1960 used about 5 litres of gas per 100 kms, which is better than most modern cars. Although I must admit that modern cars are faster (but not in town or in traffic jams) and less noisy. Personally I think that all the modern safety equipement is not really a progress - the safer the car appears, the unsafer the driver behaves. 2009-01-24 15:16
DynaMike NLIt could be a blue one indeed, since the details tell it's a 1960 version: defroster on the right side of the steering wheel since June 1959, new plastic framed rear view mirror since July and new, slightly rounded, plastic sunvisor (folded to the left, cf Francisharley's second thumbnail) since November of the same year; and still with the old bonnet that was going to be changed on the 12th of December 1960. 2009-01-24 15:05

G-MANN UKWell, I'll admit the Phantom isn't pretty, but I've never found the Camargue very attractive (considering how exclusive it was meant to be), not as nice as the cheaper and more common Silver Shadow.

juergensmuda DEShe is currently for sale at Frank Dale & Stepsons (www.frankdale.com). Here what is written there:

Year : 1956
Make : Rolls-Royce
Model : Silver Wraith Long Wheel Base LHD
Coachbuilder : Hooper
Chassis number LELW 74
Body Type : Perspex Top Saloon
Colour : Dark blue and silver grey
Trim : Two tone blue and grey leather
History : We are pleased and proud to be offering Nubar Gulbenkian's important Silver Wraith. This car is unique and has a transparent perspex top with a fabric inner blind to keep the car cool inside. Air conditioning is also installed. We understand that he had the clear perspex roof fitted due to chlostrophobia he developed at this time in his colourful life. The interior woodwork and dashboard was also covered in leather, a signature point on all of his cars. It also has a rear speedometer fitted in the rear compartment.

After Gulbenkian sold the car it appeared in the film "Les Felins", released in the UK as "The Love Cage", which starred Jane Fonda.

The car then was sold in 1968 to a French nightclub owner in Nice, where it was re-painted in bright yellow and lived in the basement of his club, as a conversation piece.

Around fifteen years ago our French agent stumbled upon the car whilst visiting the club, realised what it was and who it once belonged to and made the owner an offer, which was accepted. The wall was literally knocked down with a sledgehammer and the car was dragged out on chains.

Having reviewed tapes of the film the car appeared in, the decision was made to restore the car to its former glory, a task that will be completed sometime in the Spring of 2007. Price on application.
Condition : Chassis number LELW 74

Undergoing full mechanical and cosmetic restoration. Can be viewed at our workshop in West London.

rpcm PT The bigger rear lights with separated reflectors and the two numberplate lights on the bumper identify it as a 101 (internal code). Looking closely at the right of the numberplate it seems to be the 1600 badge (I don't say 1300 because it was launched at the Geneva "Salon" the same year of the film). So. I think this is a 1962 Giulia 1600 Sprint. 2007-01-22 03:14
