| 2008-01-10 23:49

rpcm ![]() | All the usual sources refer January 1962 as the date when the name Seven was replaced by Mini. About the specific case of France, it was badged ( and marketed ) as Austin 850. |

car nerd ![]() | I thought the U.S. Signet of this period was only available as a two-door hardtop and convertible. I think this is a V200. | 2007-10-25 23:52
valiant1962 ![]() | With the full wheel covers, white walls, and that chrome side strip I would say top of the line Signet | 2007-10-25 23:32
58Roadmaster ![]() | The additional picture of the movie car allows for a better idea of the two-tone paint scheme, leading me to agree with Ray B. that this is likely to be a Fairlane 500 Town Victoria [57A]. Also, Ford, in the US, built six times more 57A 500 4d ht models than the 57B base Fairlane 4d ht's. I just thought that a commercial driver would have a cheaper car, but this is a non-issue being so long after it was first sold. -- Last edit: 2007-10-25 15:28:34 |

Ray B. ![]() | Sorry, I don't, and I agree with 58Roadmaster comments. This car has tailfins, and the Edsel doesn't really. The C post is unique to the Fairlane Town Victoria (Town applies to the 4-door hardtop also) so this is a Fairlane Town Victoria. For a moment I wasn't sure about 1958, but in 1957 there was a chrome line on the ridge of that fin. Not here. I just can't see if its a 500 or not. The roof rack is an aftermarket item, not relevant I believe. |

The car is moving , but there is no driver ... at this time , we understand that all what we watched from the beginning of the film (scenes with the pretty girl) was a dream of the main character |

58Roadmaster ![]() | I was using a 2 page Ford ad from a book I have. In the ad are listed 20 models each with a small picture. There is the Ranchero, Custom 300, Fairlane, Fairlane Victoria (hardtop), Fairlane 500, Fairlane 500 Victoria, Skyliner, Country Squire (station wagon), Country Sedan (station wagon), Del Rio Ranch Wagon, Fordor Ranch Wagon, and Ranch Wagon. Firebird86: notice that in the pic of the Edsel to which you linked the decorative area on the side is below the rear door handle. I have another pic of a 58 E. Pacer here: http://www.edsel.com/pages/e58pac4h.gif With that roof rack, I was thinking it would be the base Fairlane model vs the 500. I realize that the park bench appears to form part of the vehicle trim, so that threw me for a few minutes. We'll have to accept 1958 Ford unknown, unless they sold Meteors in France(?). -- Last edit: 2007-10-25 06:53:16 |

DynaMike ![]() | Bien vu, Jean-Marc. | 2007-10-24 22:15
DynaMike ![]() | There has been a Fourgonnette Vitrée indeed (F65 [WL5]), but it had a totally different, edgier shape and the windows in the rear part of the body were more seperated. This is indeed a Break, production of which started on 21st of June 1963 and it may be regarded as a m.y. 1964. Production stopped in May 1965. Therefore the official name is not anymore PL17 but just 17 B Break [L9]. It was planned to be built in Italy by a new company called 'Panauto', with the rear lights of the Fiat 1800, but in the end the Panhard factory in Orléans built it (and therefore the there built Cabriolet was dropped). Some 3000 were built, two of them are in the Dutch Panhard club and one of these is for sale at this very moment... |
