You need to make an account on the site, but as long as you don't really want to make an appointment you can already retrieve the VIN. When following the link for making a new appointment enter the plate without spaces nor dashes, in the resulting page it shows the vehicles that used the plate (as a plate can be transferred to another vehicle) with a make and/or a model name.
