GM Ranger BGHi @bj928, congratulations on your buy. The R153 stands for Ranger 153 cubic inches (or 2500 cubic cm) - this follows the US tradition of naming engines by their volume, as these engines were manufactured by Chevrolet. In South Africa the Rangers used Opel bodies, partly Holden suspension, Chevy engines and I believe some local materials (glass, upholstery etc.) In Europe the Ranger was simply Opel Commodores with restyled front (the grill came from Vauxhall). 2013-12-18 16:19

bj928 ENHi Guys, new here, i just bought a south african GM Ranger coupe, its got a 4 cylinder 2500, and on the grill it says R153, to i guess its a 153hp model, don't know what the R stands for, its got white leather/pvc with ranger printed into the front seats, its totally rust free, and i'm shipping it to the uk, should go down well there 2013-12-13 09:43
GM Ranger BGHi guys, just to let you know that this is most possibly a Ranger 1900 Coupe. 6-cylinder Belgian Rangers (both 2500 and 2500 GTS) had the side trim in chrome and not painted. Also, GTSs had a GTS badge on the roof back pillar, the rest had the Ranger badge.
Are there any left? I've searched throughout the internet and I have found only 7 Belgian and 7 Swiss first generation (1970-1972) Rangers that should possibly still be in good working condition.

vistacruiser67 USAbsolutely a 72. Gone is the halo molding around the vinyl top and the vinyl goes down to the drop molding. Look for these waffle taillights on a 72. Bodyside molding is a 72 whereas 70-71 side molding is lower and encompasses the side marker lenses. 105k of these Supreme made in 72. We luckily got another year of this bodystyle due to a GM strike in the early 70s delaying the GM colonades until 73. 2013-07-30 20:25

There's one 1973 Ranger 2500 GTS on Marktplaats.nl at the moment. All I could find.

The trailer looks Saris-ish.

electra225 wrote As an Italian who travelled in Europe quite a lot in the very late seventies and early eighties, I saw only five Rangers in my life:
1) in July 1977 in Italy a bright yellow 4 door sedan derived by the Rekord D with Luxembourg plate.
2) in june 1979 in switzerland a dark grey 4 door sedan derived by the Rekord C.
3) in the same period and place another similar car in white.
4) in may 1985 in Gand (Belgium)a light tan with dark vinyl roof 2500 GTS coupé derived by the Rekord C.
5) in january 1986 in Bruxelles a mettalic light green 2 door sedan derived by the Rekord D.

cko USThats cool! These cars had a few "flaws" that prevented people from holding onto them. The electrical systems were poorly designed and the suspensions were often problematic. They still are popular with demo derby drivers (WHEN they can actually find one) who will buy nice solid, clean units to wreck for sport, and that greatly decreased their numbers, too.Its a bit surprising that there are still some in Europe where access to parts cannot be easy.Where in Holland do you find that unusual rear window? 2012-03-19 00:43
