| barreiros | My best guess would be DAF or Volvo with a N.V. König Hentocar body. This one looks ratehr similar: Link to "myntransportblog.files.wordpress.com" | 2017-09-20 13:02 | ||
| barreiros | Renault R2168 "Galion" with bodywork by Chenaud. The welding line around the roof and the grille design are very telling so I'm a 100% sure about this. | 2017-09-20 12:30 | ||

greybear ![]() | I used the word 'original' so that you young people might realise I was referring to a time before you were born! ![]() The early works competition MGAs were red with black soft tops. Soft tops were soon replaced with specially made lightweight fibreglass hardtops, still painted black. But rallying in the heat of southern European summers led to requests for improved cockpit ventilation etc. Painting the tops white was one of the solutions and this was first done on the Healey 3000 rally cars. I'm not sure what colour red was used for the early MGAs but Chariot Red was certainly used towards the end of production and was different from Tartan Red used on the MGB. There were also two types of Tartan Red; the first specification was apparently not strictly adhered to, so a revised colour, Tartan II, was introduced. IIRC Marcus Chambers, the first BMC Competions Manager, decided to paint BMC cars red when he noticed that red cars on the Mille Miglia never found level crossing gates closed when they arrived! |

rpcm ![]() | Sorry, but the BMC Works cars had the roofs painted white. Actually, the "red body / white roof" colour scheme was an exclusive of BMC Works cars and it wasn't possible to order it. Of course many people had their cars painted that way, but it wasn't a factory option. I suppose the first Minis that came with the "red / white" colour scheme were the Rover ones from the beginning of the 90s. I remember a limited edition called "Flame Red" and, of course, the Cooper. -- Last edit: 2007-11-01 03:00:19 |
