ddgonzal USDatsun 1200 bakkie if it is a 1978. 1400 bakkie didn't start until 1980, while Nissan 1400 didn't start until 1982. The grille is not clear but looks to me like 1978-1988 pickup grille because it has a larger emblem than the 1971-1978 grille.

renier1972 ZAThe front bumber and mag wheel indicates that this must be a GTi Golf but I have my doubts that it, maybe this dude added it to his lesser model. 2008-06-10 10:32

Had some resemblance with 60s end- early70s Argentinian-made Dodge Polaras,Brazilian-made Dodge Darts and Aussie-Made

datsunZ ITEarly South-African-made Golfs don't follows same modifications as Europeans:in past,in some cases they were back in years respect than those built in Germany;e.g.,when in Europe was marketed the Golf II,ZA-based plants of VW offers still in 1985 the Golf I,but with some different trim denominations(like LX,GX and GTX);when later Golf II was marketed also in ZA(locally-built),the older body Golf I range wasn't erased, but renamed(for be distinguishables from newest ones)as Citi Golf, while others rest named Golf II(the Citi Golfs rest in production still into Nineties!);old Golf I was available in ZA also in pick-up form(identical at European Eighties'Caddy, which got also a sporty trimmed version, the GTS,with Golf GTI engine and quad headlights grille of 1982 European ones);even when at eve of Nineties'was presented in ZA the Golf III,the Golf II don't cease production for give way at newcomer, but remains still a while besides it;'cause VW ZA had built locally also the Jetta II,when in 1993 start to be marketed the locally-made new series(Golf III-based),VW ZA choose to name it not Vento(as European ones),but still Jetta!!!...What a strange marketing strategies!!!...

datsunZ IT The Nissan Bakkie retains still 1971 Sunny Pick-up bodyshell, but grille was modified

PS Can't be 1971 M.Y. that illustrated,'cause at times the Datsun Sunny Pick-up had a 1.2 lt. engine, while that's was 1.4 lt.powered,so that model was intro.in ZA years later,'cause fit the same 1.4 engine of 1978 Datsun Sunny 140Y;recall that model still built in Japan in 1986-1987(but had squared headlights, not rounded),and also that was 1.4 powered;so that's a Eighties model surely, but assembled in South-Africa

That model was built since 1978 by Sigma Motor Corp.(a South-African holding set up in 1977,embracing the locally production facilities of Mazda,Mitsubishi,Chrysler ZA and Peugeot ZA,later dismantled)as Mazda 323 GLC(South-African-made version of 1977 Mazda Familia 323 AP,RWD);in 1981 was launched the new model(based on the 1981 Mazda Familia 323 FF,FWD),just that illustrated(and that retains still older name,323 GLC),available also in 323 A/T version, gifted of 3-speed automatic transmission;in late years, were developed also specific versions, like a "bakkie"(Afrikaans term for "pick-up")and a traditional sedan with trunk, the 323 Saloon(that, thanks at joint venture existing thru Mazda and Ford, was marketed down there also under US-Brand as Ford Meteor name)

Seems too much smaller for a P100...Are you sure that isn't a Ford Bantam,a Escort Mk III pick-up???...the P100 had a longer load bed and that seems short-sized

PS The P100 was marketed since 1981,and appears to be a South-African made Cortina Estate Mk V"chopped"into rear part;that model lasted until 1986(in Europe was sold overall in UK);2nd generation appears in Europe around 1989,now based on South-African Sierra Estate Mk I;that model got also Diesel engines and was exported also in other European Countries, like Italy(also in a sporty-trimmed version, with rear cab rollbar and decorative coloured stripes on sides)

However, the older P100,Cortina-based design was shifted at Turkish Otosan, that will modify grille with quad squared headlights(former P100 had only two squared ones)and sold it as Otosan P-100,beside the license-built Otosan-Ford Taunus Mk V(in 1992 was still built,as witnessing a my-owned brochure got writing to Otosan just)
