dhill_cb7 USZA spec models received tail lamps destined for EU. The tag would apply due to this feature. Plus the fact the rear window slides. JDM models the rear window is fixed. 2022-07-11 17:24

walter ITThe point is that I'm not sure if the Avant was officially sold in ZA too (if so, it should have been called 400/500 like the sedan though), as I wrote above I still can't find no references about it in the web - and the fact that the one in the link is definitely LHD is making me wonder... 2018-03-21 15:43

Gag Halfrunt UKThe fact that this car appears in two productions filmed in Cape Town but set in the USA makes me wonder f it was a left hand drive personal import, even if we can't see the steering wheel. 2018-03-15 13:11
walter ITI can't find any info/pics to find out whether the C3 Avant was also called 400/500 in South Africa like the sedan or not... This is very possibly the same as /vehicle_43060-Audi-100-Avant-Typ-44-1988.html though. 2018-03-15 12:31

From that picture it looks more like an SUV to me. According to imdb the movie was filmed in South Africa. Perhaps this is a car that was made especially for that market.

Kestrel wrote Well boys its not a 1969 canadian parisenne 2+2. It is a 1969 Canadian Parisenne. The 1969 & 1970 2+2 was just that, it had its own label. They dropped the Pontiac Parisenne Custom Sport in 67 and added the 2+2 label. When they made the Grande Parisenne in 1969 & 1970 the 2+2 had its own label. I do have a 2+2 and its 1 of only 7 totaly ORIGNIAL 427 4 speeds left in the country. By the way the Canadian cars where so much better.

Your right about the 1969-70 models not being called Parisienne, however, this one is a 1969 Pontiac 2+2, look at the louvers on the rear quarters...

ingo DENo, the K 70 has nothing to do with other watercooled VW's, it was constructed by NSU before the merging with VW in 1969. The K 70-engine is based on the 4-cylinder-NSU-engines, but with a new block (iron than aluminium, watercooled than aircooled). Some smaller parts from the cylinderhead are identical with NSU, but no single part with VW.

Yes, the VW/Audi uses the same engines for their whole model-range. At least the Dasher (Passat I) ist nothing else than a Audi Fox (80) Fastback. The whole technic is identical, the body until the C-Pillar, too.

Don't wondering, when you take a look to the engines of the 6-cylinder-Diesel-Volvo's from the 80ies and 90ies (740 and so). There you will find also the VW/Audi-logo. ;) Volvo has bought them from Vokswagen, it's the engine of the LT Transporter.

And when you look at very early Audi-engines, from the Audi 60/72/Super 90, you will find annother logo - that one from Mercedes Benz.

I am sorry to ask you, ingo. Doesn't the K70 uses Audi engine? I have seen Rabbit and Dasher have Audi logo stamp on these engines.

ingo DEThe real "curosity" (resp.confusion) you will feel, when you are busy with spare parts for them... I have a friend and I know other guys, too, who are dealers for parts for classic VW's. Even with their 25-year-old-experience in that business, it's hard for them to remind every detail. And the guy own many rare VW's, so private imported Brazilian models, a SP, a Karmann TC, a four-door Type 3, a 1996 made VW T2 Station Wagen, a 411 in US-version and so on.

I'm happy, that "my" car was only produced for a short time and in only one plant. :)

ingo DEYes, you're right, this movie was filmed in ZA.

@Johnny Ford: he you see an example of "posting before thinking" - I could have saved my whole thoughts and long postings about the originality of this car. I just had to look for the location. :/
ZA-made VW's are different than the original German ones, Brazilian and Mexican, too.
