2491tj ENopen bonnet vents, side louvres, bottom of fender, all indicate its an auto union horch 901 Kfz15...but the door handles, and spare tyre indicate the body style to be the rare Kommandantur cabriolet version 2011-10-24 12:25
G-MANN UKThat's interesting, I didn't know each side often used captured vehicles and weapons. 2011-09-24 20:23
rjluna2 USIIRC, They even have exchange rate for 2 Jeeps for a Kubelwagen. 2011-09-22 13:53
JCB UKYes Germans captured / confiscated a lot of big American cars from Belgium , France and Holland in 1940 . They were very popular as staff cars , comfortable and reliable. Germans made official use of captured vehicles as their auto industry could never keep pace with ww2 military demands, even with captured auto factories supplying. Hence also German use of horse transport throughout the war.

Lateef NONothing wrong about that at all. The Germans (I don't call the Nazis because not all of them were) captured and used a lot of British and American equipment during the war in North Africa, and they even had their own designation for captured T-34s (pz.kpfw.747) from the eastern front.

Many Jeeps were captured by the Germans during the war, as much as Kübelwagens were captured by allies during the war. I've even heard that quite a few allied officers preferred being driven around in captured Kübelwagens rather than Jeeps due to them being more spacious and comfortable terrain vehicles.

Same with hand guns, really. Captured units were sometimes favoured to the ones of their own side.

G-MANN UKI don't know, I just have this idea that the Nazis might have considered it sacrilege to use a vehicle built by an Allied nation, and vice-versa. 2011-09-21 16:12

robi DEIt is, but maybe it is a confiscated vehicle. As far as I know, they took private cars for the military. 2011-09-21 14:23
G-MANN UKWould the Nazis use a American Buick as a staff car? Is that not the Nazi eagle on that little flag?

Lateef NOIt looks like a m. gl. Einheits-Pkw Kfz. 15, but I find it somehow strange. It has chrome doorhandles, moreover, the rear doorhandle is a suicide one. Presumably some custom-made captured vehicle or something like that?
