paktype ![]() | If you look very closely at the left taillight lens, you will see that the lens is split down the middle. That makes this Omega an '81, not an '80. I had an '80 Omega for five years. The taillight lenses bore the Omega crest, not the split. | 2009-11-20 14:04

Weasel1984 ![]() | Ok. I though that there can be a difference similar, as in my language is. Word "seria" (series) = more this "phase" and for the completly new model we would rather use "generacja" (generation). -- Last edit: 2009-03-20 19:56:37 |

antp ![]() | As said above, for restyling it is rather "phase". For the model itself, maybe "série" is not so common, it would just have the number, like for the Clio etc. (currently the case on the site actually) but for the R5 there is no common word since it is usually refered as Supercinq instead of "second series R5" -- Last edit: 2009-03-20 19:19:16 |

medimanic ![]() | Now that I can see the front end I need to say that this example has an 1985 air intake over a 1987 bumper...but a 4 door version is in any case post 1986 even considering that the bumper has been probably replaced.. so is more accurate to list it as 1986! |
2009-03-19 15:43 | ||
medimanic ![]() | You are right that's why we say for example Clio II phase I or phase II, the current Citroen C5 is the C5 II phase I and of course using the model year is the most unmistakable way. When I said that 1985 and serie 2 are not compatible for a Renault Super5 I meant exactly that. You can mention all Super5s as 1985 models for space economy, or if you want precision and take care of facelifts you also need to respect their model year.. so in the present issue a restyled Super5 (not 5) is absolutely post 1987. | 2009-03-19 15:34
Weasel1984 ![]() | Medimanic, first part of my comment was to admin who a bit misinterpreted you (as I thought) and changed the date to 1987 (well to antp ). I thought that you reffer more to this "Serie 2" - and here let's say, it can debatable, but it has been also explained and such naming system is like for me ok.And everything would be clear now, I think, but I must say that I also do not understand what did you mean by the examples of BX and W124. We use "Serie 2" for the entire period 1985-1996, but all facelifts are ofcourse taken into consideration by years in the model year field. This car is the 1985-1986 model of the second R5 generation (of the Super5). Here is the front end of it: /vehicle_220018-AIL-unknown.html - 1985. BTW. How it is in French? Maybe word "serie" indeed fits more to the "restylings"? -- Last edit: 2009-03-19 15:37:21 |

antp ![]() | It is me who renamed it, as I usually trust medimanic's comment, I did not check the launch year of the Supercinq. But now with the last comments I am lost here... mk/series/etc. info is used when a name is shared between multiple cars (Golf, Clio, etc.) So we list the Supercinq as a Renault 5 of 2nd series. Some cars use that field for restyling but that should be avoided as it was not the primary use (e.g. the BX, I should remove the series info and keep just year for restylings) and some have still errors in that (e.g. the C5 uses 1/2/3, 3 being current, but 1 and 2 are the same, current is the real 2). To go back to the R5, this one is for sure a 1985-1996, série 2 then, but can it be narrowed down to 1987+ ? -- Last edit: 2009-03-19 09:57:44 |

medimanic ![]() | 5s & Super5s are not exactly an evolution of each other despite name is almost equal. Super5s have redisigned bigger body, transversal engine mounting, gearbox and suspension coming directly from the R9/11 organ bank and also had two generations during production. I only mentioned to which generation belongs the present example that's all! If identification has to be in a very general way for space economy, every Mercedes W124 has to be listed as 1984 model and every Citroen BX as 1983, right? -- Last edit: 2009-03-18 23:28:09 |

Weasel1984 ![]() | Please do not be so "automatic" when you will change the year next time (to person who has change it ). Why 1987? It is a 1985, like it was listed, see the grill on the AIL picture. This was indeed known as "Super5", but the badge still said "Renault 5", that's why we list them this way, as "5": Serie 1 - 1972-1985, Serie 2 - 1985-1996/97. Correct or not I thought that there was already discussion about it. |
