Flaminiasupersport BEThe Appia Convertible came in two versions. The first series which is a 2 seater and based on the 2nd series Appia Berlina, and the 2nd series 2 + 2 seater based on the 3rd series berlina... A bit confusing as an Appia Convertible called "2nd series" is in fact a 1st series and the "3rd series" is a 2 series... Ok, I lost everyone here :-)

And to get everyone totally confused, some 1st series (2 seaters) had a script "seconda series" instead of "Appia Convertibile"...

Correct me if I'm wrong :-)

pilou BEIt is the other way round .The convertible as this one ( it has an added hardtop)was realised by Vignale on a Michelotti design. The coupe ( with the rear panoramic window) was realised by Pinin Farina. The convertible was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show of 1957 and build untill 1962 with a production run of about 1500 cars. 2006-12-15 10:03

1948-1961(some sources say that was projected by Eng.Ferdinand Porsche, when was prisoner in France during 2nd WW)

Pour compléter, les mêmes sources iraient jusqu'à dire que la tenue de route catastrophique de la 4CV était une vengeance de Porsche suite à la défaite nazie... ;)

pilou BEIt is a Vauxhall PA Cresta of 1958-1961 vintage with the small rear fender wings .The PB Cresta had a completely different much squarer body with slab sides and was only launched at the London Motor Show of 1962.The picture is far too small and unclear to fix an exact date. 2006-12-13 17:14
pilou BEYes , on series III , the side flash did not curve down and was rather straight and slim.So it may well be a II as you say. What puzzles me a bit here is that the side flash colour does not cover the entire outer surface of the rear fender wings as was normally the case on series II Sunbeam Rapiers. On the other hand those wings look quite pointed for a Singer. But the picture is unclear and very small and I cannot longer rely 100 % on my eyes.So another Rootes mystery? 2006-12-13 17:02
pilou BEI also think that the probability that this would be an 1800 is low, considering the movie date of 1963 2006-12-13 16:41
pilou BELancia Appia Series II convertible ca 1960 2006-12-13 16:36
Sunbar UKpilou, I'm tending to think Series II now because the side flash looks to curve down slightly although the picture is not that clear? 2006-12-13 16:33
pilou BE Also go for a Sunbeam Rapier Series II ca 1961.It has pointed rear fender wings .On Singer Gazelles those were much flatter. 2006-12-13 16:30
Sunbar UKSunbeam Rapier Convertible series III (Model Year 1960)

Series III (and not series II) because of the side flash.
