ingo ![]() | @chicomarx: thanks for the pics - but the 1971-MY in "grünmetallic" does not have the "Belgian chunk". Here you can see it well: /vehicle.php?id=784921 and /vehicle.php?id=478490 20 years ago I owned a former Belgian K 70, but I haven't kept the foglight -it was the specific Belgian chunk- I can look for it on the next spare parts markets. They are to find at every Belgian used parts-dealer. IIRC the toothless junkyard-owner, you can find with his goods (mainly scrap) at http://oldtimermarkt-bockhorn.com/impressionen-103.html is Belgian, too. |

chicomarx ![]() | UK scene though. This orange-blue-creme colour lasted until 1991, when the national transport company was split up to create regional equivalents. (De Lijn in Flanders and TEC in Wallonia) | 2015-02-13 01:27
chicomarx ![]() | I tried to find the manufacturer of your square "chunk" but no success. Perhaps it was purchased in bulk in 1968 when the law came into effect? To me it seems the later ones didn't have it so much, but it's difficult to make definite rules about things in Belgium... ![]() |

Gag Halfrunt ![]() | @chicomarx: There's a Belgian bus in exactly the same livery hiding behind this Volga in GoldenEye: /vehicle_4331-GAZ-31029-Volga-1992.html |

ingo ![]() | That's not really correct, it depended on the model. All 1972+ back K 70-bumper had an extra hole for mounting the Bosch-foglight (the Audi 100 C1, too): Link to "2.bp.blogspot.com" On the early bumpers this is not possible: Link to "upload.wikimedia.org" so here the Hella-version was mounted on top of the bumper (right now I cannot find a pic of it), which means, that a hole has to be drilled in the bumper. The unique Belgian foglight was mounted on the back panel, between the left taillight and the plate, including a drilled hole in the back panel. |

chicomarx ![]() | Van Hool built the A120 mostly on Volvo chassis http://www.zone01.be/artikel/vanhool-a120-volvo but thoses buses are clearly branded with a VOLVO logo. This series is specified with a Van Hool chassis, not sure why exactly. Alternative chassis (much less used) were DAF SB210, Leyland LFRE55 and Mercedes-Benz O 305: http://www.zone01.be/artikel/vanhool-a120-op-externe-chassis |
2015-02-12 20:13 | ||
zodiac ![]() | Are you saying that Van Hool built the whole chassis? I've seen bus chassis from Volvo arriving at one of the body makers, and that wasn't much more than something one might call a "drive train", that is engine, gearbox and rear axle(s) (at rear)combined to one unit and steering and front axle (at front) as another unit. That meant the body builder effectively had to make the chassis as well as the rest of the structure, but still it was branded as a Volvo. |

ingo ![]() | Yes! This one http://users.skynet.be/mercedes-benz/gallery/240D/MBw115240D_7.jpg is unique Belgian. The other foglights, chicomarx is showing, are the Bosch- or Hella-versions, as generally used by all German car-makers and several others, too. This is the odd mystery, why in the late 60ies, early 70ies, the cars in Belgium had always this typical "chunk", although the makers offered the common Bosch/Hella/Lucas etc. foglights.It seems, that around the mid-70ies the Belgian regulations became smoother, that other foglight-makes were allowed. |

chicomarx ![]() | Underneath the bumper possibly on all VW and Audis imported by D'Ieteren. Like on my parents' rust bucket Audi 50. Also looking at oldtimer ads http://www.kapaza.be/nl/audi/audi-100-1975-92748220.htm Not a "chunk" there... K70 in Liege btw http://www.kapaza.be/nl/volkswagen/vw-k-70-ancetre-92285413.htm (the date on the photos betrays it has been for sale for a while) @antp OK, will add in future. |
2015-02-12 18:52 | ||
antp ![]() | There is a unique one? Many cars had the extra foglight under the bumper. These were added to the car by the importer, so I guess it counts as "made for B" when it is done on all cars sold on a given market. edit: like many cars with yellow headlights are listed as "made for F", or those with headlight wipers for Northern countries. -- Last edit: 2015-02-12 18:13:06 |
2015-02-12 17:47 | ||
chicomarx ![]() | Is the foglight really enough to make every car 'Made for B'?... Although an extra switch was also needed. Still mandatory if the car doesn't have it standard. |
2015-02-12 16:55 | ||
ingo ![]() | yes, the rear foglight was mandatory in Belgium (until?). But this is not the Belgian-unique one, maybe because it doesn't fit here. If you would put it above or under the taillights, it would be cracked by the back door. | 2015-02-12 14:29

ingo ![]() | I thought about LX, too, but I was unsure due the colour -I thought the LX had a more blue-ish green metallic paint- and I cannot see the openable triangle windows in the front doors. But I probably mixed it up with the pre-facelift LX from 1977.P.S.Does it have the slightly brown-ish tinted windows, too? |
