But in fact Pewex is sort of abbreviation of the Polish "Przedsiębiorstwo Eksportu Wewnętrznego" (~internal export company). These shops, known to every Pole, sold various goods for the hard currency only and then dissaperad from Poland in the first half of the 90s.
