It's a new type of engine which makes necessary this new name, 15 Six D, from 1947 on.
But it's still a petrol engine.

chris40 UKThe roundel on the fender is simply an F plate. IIRC way back when the French seemed to have a horror of white oval international plates, this type was quite common, as was a simple F bolted straight to the bodywork. 2014-04-26 09:46

R type - 2320

The design was getting rather out of date by the time of the R-type, one of the problems being boot space, which caused the lengthening of the tail as a stop-gap. People expected to take their bags with them rather than have the valet take them by train. One of the parameters for the R-type boot was based on 4 sets of golf clubs and 3 suitcases. Presumably somebody had to wear the same clothes for the whole weekend!
