dhill_cb7 ![]() | By the grille & bumper made for AUS. JDM models have a different grille and a bumper without the holes. Not to mention this generation has a wing fender mirror. Also, the front bumper license plate section is wider on these than the Japanese models. | 2022-09-27 19:01

Ozziecar ![]() | The hearse in the middle definitely started life as a Falcon. Note the rear window/door. The Fairlane/LTD and wagon have a very straight top edge door frame. the std falcon sedan curves downwards. Other obvious tell-tale signs (but not the definitive give-away) is the lack of chrome mirror scalps, lack of chrome trim along the window trim, lack of corner lights in lower half of bumper etc. | 2021-02-02 13:31

MisterZ ![]() | In Australia, the boss of Holden was disappointed when, in 2004, he found out the new V6 from GM was "only" 3.6L and not 3.8L like the previous Buick 3800. He thought Australians would find the 3.6L too small. | 2019-12-22 18:20
MisterZ ![]() | Plate returns: 2007. This has the old style mirrors without indicators in them. All Navaras (except base models) from 2007 onwards gained new indicator mirrors, so it's impossible for this to be a 2008 anyway. This is likely a 2007-complied vehicle with a late 2006 build date, due to the older mirrors. The plate also says this is a 4x4 4.0L V6 automatic. Keats ![]() | Story behind the Top Gear usage - the clip was lifted by the "Top Gear" producers from the YouTube channel of a mate of mine (who'd transferred it from a 16mm film print he had), and used on the show. A while later, his YT upload gets a copyright strike from the BBC, claiming that HE lifted the clip from THEM! At which point he went slightly feral. I suggested that he respond to the strike, asking the BBC a) just what made it think it owned any rights to an Australian TV commercial that it didn't actually produce, and b) how it could be that he'd lifted the clip from the "Top Gear" episode and uploaded it to YT several years before it actually appeared on the "Top Gear" episode - TARDIS, perhaps? He ended up doing an interview on a major local radio network, which contacted the BBC for comment. Magically, the copyright strike disappeared within hours... |

maddog80 ![]() | This is the G8 GXP. It has a different front diffuser from the G8 and G8 GT and you can also see the GXP lettering behind the front wheel. Lesser models only had the GM badge there. | 2016-04-26 17:14
MisterZ ![]() | Agree with this being a Falcon (based on long-wheelbase wagon), not Fairlane. One clue is the lack of chrome trim around the window frames, which all Fairlanes have. The rear door shape is not a clue, however, since that type of door is shared with both wagon and LWB sedan models. -- Last edit: 2016-04-18 19:57:06 |

dsl ![]() | ^ basically now with better info I agree with that Sept 82 change. Glass's has slightly different account - HLS dropped entirely, L became SL (which is a smoother transition for the estate which was previously L only) with added front spoiler and bright trim on front and rear screens, HL became SLX (with newly added tints, rear centre armrest and front headrests). All Ital production stopped Jan/Feb 84. | 2016-03-25 15:51
mauriceoxford ![]() | There was an SL - I know because I've got one ![]() The range was L, HL, HLS from 1980 to mid 1982, at which point production was moved from Cowley to Longbridge whilst Cowley was refitted in readiness for the Maestro/Montego. The Longbridge cars were finally fitted with telescopic front dampers, the L model was deleted, the HL became the SL, the HLS became the SLX. This car is a Longbridge product. Was it in Australia or was the segment filmed in the UK? |

MisterZ ![]() | "GLX" trim due to black handles/mirrors. Looks like 2009 NT Pajero due to the "GLX" badge on the bottom right of the tailgate. 2007-2008 NS Pajeros lacked that badge. Also, plate was issued in 2009. -- Last edit: 2020-09-30 13:32:52 |
