Nick37 USBruce Campbell, plus Herbie, and man, the extended cameo from Dean Jones as Jim Douglas pulls at the heart strings something fierce. It was far from a great film, but Campbell, Jones, and a nice evil turn from John Hannah make it endlessly rewatchable.

Wish they'd release this on DVD already.

I just posted that comment because Donald Trump really is a hateful person.

willie RSI was always kinda sorry for this car because it's beautiful (and chracteristically Beatle-ish cute), that it was made to be evil and hate-bug. I think Horace deserves loving owner and he will turn into the love bug again.... 2015-12-16 20:46

theuiga USIt's been a blast, but I'm looking to build another car of my own so in 7 days the original Horace #2, pleasure ribs, tire slasher, laser and all is going up for auction by Screenused:

Link to "www.icollector.com"

Any other Herbie or movie car fans should take a look at a few of the other auction, there's a lot of original pieces on offer from the last Herbie flick, or Blade Runner, or plenty of other car-centric films with starting bids less than the cost of a dinner for two at the Olive Garden.

theuiga US"Engine? original 4-cylinder?. I need to ask, because in the movie, Horace used a gas-turbine engine. "

The car has a 40hp stock VW granny motor that I've only gotten about 62mph out of, down hill. It runs really hot, too, because there's fabric over all of the stock engine vents. One of the future projects is to install a monster 12V fan to help with the cooling and add a bit of the turbine sound to it.

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc226/theuiga/PC120019.jpg

Most people I meet at VW events haven't seen the film so they think it's an NSU prototype beetle, which also didn't have a rear window.
2008-01-05 06:06
truckface NOThis is probably the closest you get to a 1938 Phantom Corsair, since it`s impossible to obtain. Only one remains to this day, in a museum in Reno. However, i think Horace kinda resembles the prototype of the Volkswagen Beetle from the thirties. The Phantom Corsair is beautiful! ... And so is this bug!
