Rastaman wrote Could also be a 1993 and I think its the "Klassische Version" the name classic came in 1996.

1993 built models are considered 1994s according to MB.

Suspension looks rather low (Esprit was lower and aimed toward younger folk). Might be an Esprit or Classic unless the color wasn’t offered for both trims.

dsl SXI always think of these as just HPE (of which we only have 1) instead of H.P.Executive (5 including this one). Did the name vary between markets, or can we just lump them all together under one name? Am fairly sure HPE was the only name used in UK. 2011-08-26 00:51

Rather unlikely, as it's a scene from East Germany. On the local classic-car-meetings there are still mostly COMECON-made cars (and it's a movie from 1996). There are not too many West Germans with their Western cars going there, so why should someone from Belgium going there?

I think, it's just a Belgian tourist on a Berlin-trip with his all-day-classic-car. Even nowadays you see many ID/DS in the BeNeLux-countries, even in daily use.

ingo DEThat ones, which were not taken back by the Red Army were sold to private customers. But most of them have sold them again very soon, especially to the export - after they had recognized the fuel-consumption...

I remember, that some of them were standing around at some dealer's-backlots in the mid-90ies, also in Western Germany. But nowadays you cannot see them any more on German roads, not even at classic car- or classic truck-meetings. Totally different, compared with old DDR-Volksarmee-trucks or vehicles of the Western German Bundeswehr.

O.k., it's probably rather a Lada 2105, a former DDR-car. It was called Lada Nova only in West Germany.

ingo DEThe plate -if original- identifies it as a 1995-version. Only in 1994/95, the time, when these new "Euro"-style-plates were introduced in Germany, there was this hyphen on plates, and only in Berlin, Potsdam and around there. 2010-11-30 21:14
