jpts AUThis film was about the armed siege between career criminal, Wally Mellish and the NSW Police that took place at the home that Mellish shared with his girlfriend, Beryl Muddle and their infant child in Glenfield, NSW between 2nd July and the 9th July 1968.

The siege begun when two police officers went to the home to question Mellish (who been recently released from prison) about the theft of car parts, and to serve an arrest warrant on Mellish for car theft.

Over the eight days, the NSW Police Commissioner, Norm Allen had suppled Mellish with a Armalite Rifle with 200 rounds of ammunition, and a transistor radio.

In exchange for police agreeing to withdrew the original arrest warrant and offered to have Mellish sent to the Holsworthy Army Barracks, so Mellish could enlist for service in Vietnam, Mellish finally surrendered peacefully at 3:09 on the afternoon of the 9th July.

In the aftermath, Mellish was sent to Morisset Hospital for treatment, not long after being released from the hospital, Mellish was sentenced to three years imprisonment after being caught threating and demanding.

A number of detectives who complain about not being able to arrest Mellish were transferred to uniform duty, while Commissioner Allen was awarded with a police bravery medal.

One of the detectives who attended the scene, Detective Superintendent Donald Fergusson was later found dead of a suspicious gunshot wound to the head in the bathroom of his office at the NSW Police Administration Building in Sydney on the 15th February 1970.

AnimatronixX DESuperior Motor Body Works (later: Superior Industries) of Brisbane started in 1964, did similar bodies on Fairlane chassis around that time, later also bodied Vailants. This movie was (partly) filmed in Brisbane. Educated guess: This is an early coachwork by Superior Motor Body Works.

Sunbar UKFascinating stuff I never realised Vickers tried to enter the tractor market, great work there, mike 962!

I'm no expert, but I don't believe its a flywheel but the 'power take-off' belt pulley (abbreviated to 'PTO') for transmitting power to other pieces of equipment. Sure enough its based on the steam engine flywheels that were used for this function but its too small to be an effective flywheel.

Zitat Vickers
The Sheffield firm of Vickers was well known as a manufacturer of armaments both prior to and during the First World War. In the early 1920s they decided to diversify into tractor production, but rather than design its own tractor, Vickers opted for a licensing arrangement with International Harvester that allowed it to build the latter’s 15-30 model. The aim was to market the tractor in Australia, and hence it became known as the Vickers "Aussie". There were minor modifications to the IHC 15-30 design, but the most noticeable difference was the bright orange paint and the “Vickers” name cast into the top of the radiator. The first Vickers tractors appeared in 1925, and over the next four years several different versions were produced with various modifications. The Mk I was rated at 30 hp, whereas the Mk III, introduced in 1926, carried a higher rating of 23-40 hp roughly in line with the uprated IHC 22-36. A Mk IV appeared in 1929 with a number of improvements based on experience under Australian conditions, although the tractor was also marketed in the UK. Unfortunately sales were not forthcoming, and Vickers abandoned its tractor project in the early 1930s.

MisterZ AU"Utility" was the proper name for this generation, not "Ute". Apparently, Utility was used up until the [HX] series of 1976, so really, everything up until 1976 should use this name and not the abbreviated "Ute"...

Kiwi Sapper NZGreetings from "Down Under"

The truck in the back ground is a 1940's Canadian Military Pattern , probably a 30 cwt. Known here in New Zealand as CMP's, and Blitzes" in Australia, they became the backbone of the British Army following the loss of their vehicle at Dunkirk. They were also widely used by most Commonwealth Armies. I just sold mine last week.
