| dsl | While the Austin name was dropped with the 1989 facelift (or perhaps as early as 1987), it is worth noting that there was never any Rover badging on 1989+ cars, nor was it an official title - "[facelift cars] had a badge resembling the Rover Viking longship, but it was not identical, nor did the word "Rover" ever appear on the cars." (from wiki). | ecclefechan | I don't find it horrible, but like most BL/Austin/Rover cars it suffered from poor build quality, relability issues and generally had an image of being dull. It wasn't the butt of jokes in the same vein as the likes of Ladas, Skodas and Yugos, but due to its less than desirable image, depreciation was high which do doubt also attributed to the large amount of them being scrapped. Oddly though, Jeremy doesn't actually make any comments on the Montego itself in this. He attempts various stunts in it which were performed in a 1980's advert for the Montego, but at the end he realises that he hasn't destroyed anything, so the completely fake truck smash on the Montego is performed. |
