eralehm ![]() | The dummy tank built on a Saladin armoured car was NOT destroyed during filming, as often claimed. I saw it in undamaged condition in Moscow in April 1996, some months after the film had premiered. At that time it was loaded on a British-registered trailer parked behind my hotel.![]() |

johnfromstaffs ![]() | ^ Compared against what? If your only choice was between one of these and legging it everywhere, what would your view be then? Having driven many, many cars dating back as far as the 1930s, I have to tell you there are no certainties, only comparisons. If you had 100 miles to go and only enough fuel to get there in this, and half way there in a Moskvitch, what would be your choice then? And, boy, don’t tell me what to think. -- Last edit: 2019-03-24 18:21:06 |

Gag Halfrunt ![]() | No, it was a probably a reliable car that was made to look like crap. Film crews can't afford to wait around for hours if a car breaks down. Anyway, there were probably two cars, one for driving and one for the sledgehammer scene. |

Hoppe Pinochet ![]() | What a massive disappoint must had been for Bond. He sees Wade leaning on this W126 and thinks that he's going to be chauffered around in the Merc only for Wade to take him to his little blue Zaporezhets that breaks down on the way to Zukovsky's hideout. Poor 007. |

dsl ![]() | [1885/R] .. "the very model used by Pierce Brosnan in 1995’s Goldeneye" will auctioned at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, 13 July 2018, expected price £1.2m. ... with visible tear-drops. "Goldeneye opened with Brosnan flinging the DB5 around the hills above Monte Carlo, in an effort to escape from the chasing Ferrari F355 of Xenia Onatopp. Three DB5s were used for filming Goldeneye, with DB5/1885/R piloted by Brosnan in the mountainside duel. It was one of two DB5s purchased especially for the film to be used for the racing sequences. Both were comprehensively restored and prepared ahead of production by Stratton Motor Company. After Brosnan handed back the keys, the DB5 was cleaned up and used for promotional purposes – first to generate publicity for the film, and then by Aston Martin to drive sales of its DB7. It also took part in motor shows in both Detroit and Los Angeles, where it was driven on to its stands by Sir Stirling Moss. It then returned to Britain for a Christie’s sale in 2001 of some 250 pieces of Bond memorabilia and sold for £157,750; this was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the most expensive item of Bond memorabilia ever sold, although that figure has since been passed a couple of times, not least by the Goldfinger DB5, which went for $4.1m in 2010. 1885/R has since been exhibited at Beaulieu’s Bond exhibition, The London Film Museum, The National Motor Museum and, more recently, the ‘Bond in Motion’ exhibition in Covent Garden." - from here. |
