dsl SXFreddy Loix with possibly Sven Smeets - see side window letters - with #2 during 1999 season as a full Evo VI (although the S22 TMR plate at least was previously on an Evo V). S22 TMR's events are listed here with what seems to be a good match for top photo (flat wheels, no logo strip along top of door number panels) but it's unclear what event that photo represents. It does't match the Monte livery or the others shown on that page. 2019-03-01 02:55

58TwinCam ENHi DSL,

The statement - As a mid-58 car, it predates launch by several months. is incorrect, as the launch date for the twin cam was 14th July 1958 and this production car was dispatched 01/09/1958 as you list above.

The reason it's not on the "Notable Cars" list Stu, is this list was supplied by the factory I believe and PKG1 was a privateer entry. Although these days that lists seems to keep growing.

See if you can get a copy of this film Stu and drop the register a load, so we can look for other Twin Cam's please.

dsl SXNice one! Have entered you as owner for both pages. Have reached the end of whatever info I can find, but do post anything else you turn up. Any pictures of it today?? 2017-01-06 15:32
StuBurgess ENThis car is sitting in my garage in Norfolk, yes had a colour change to black but am looking at putting back to orient red, car was sold to my father in 1971 and the no. plate changed on retention as part of the deal, sold for £90!!!!
It is believed to be the first Twin Cam Coupe off the line with the first 4 cars built having different front inner wings to later cars.
Been trying to find as much info on the car as possible and would love to receive as much info and pictures as possible.

dsl SX#281 on 1960 Monte Carlo was an MGA driven by Frank James Powell/Desmond Tilley, started from Paris, not listed (as far as I can tell) as a finisher. As Powell was the main driver on the 1960 Tulip for PKG 1 (with SH Ashcroft) as link ^, I guess this is same car.

If PKG 1 (#YM1/553) was a works or works-assisted entry, it's not listed at this page of significant Twin Cams, although both YM1/551 and YM1/552 are there, plus YM2/554, so 553 was probably significant as a development car of some sort. This seems confirmed by this entry in the MGA Register

Production record - Chassis number YM1 / 553
Type Twin-Cam
Body colour Black
Trim colour Black
Hood colour -
Production start date 1958-06-23
Production finish date 1958-09-01
Dispatch date 1958-09-05
Type of wheels Dunlop
Destination market Home Market
Accessories Competition Seats, Heater, Oil Cooler, Windscreen Washer

This car is known to be in Great Britain (UK)

As a mid-58 car, it predates launch by several months.

dsl SXPossibly the 1960 Monte Carlo - #289 was a Renault unknown driven by a USA pairing of George La Rose and Roy Hebel, started from Paris; seems some other captures were also 1960 Paris starters. 2017-01-06 14:24
58TwinCam ENPKG1 (Now has a different rego) is known to be the 1960 Tulip Rally MGA Twin Cam and as you can see from this photo, also the Monte Carlo Rally Car.

http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/competition/comp301_tr60.htm

Can this car be reclassified as an MGA Twin Cam coupe please.

fontheking5 SEIn 1986 Group B was still the top class, and the Celica GT4 did not race.
The Celica GT-Four ST165 made its World Rally Championship (WRC) debut in the 1988 Tour de Corse, and since works teams always use new cars, this must be a 1988-1991 model.

fontheking5 SEFreddy Loix did not drive the Celica until 1996, and for half of the 1997 season, before changing to the Corolla WRC, so i don`t think this is a 1994 Celica.

amojak ENalso there was the lesser known Grumett from Uruguay . Unusually they used the same UK style front end and did coupe and pick up truck variants. The body panels were mainly fibreglass.

Most other countries had the chevrolet or kadett front end.

The chevette in its UK form was also sold in New Zealand. Making it a unique country as it had three variants sold there, the chevette, the holden gemini and the kadett.
