NissanSilviaKs AUI love Dolomite Sprints... 2022-05-12 04:26
Z2 AUPlate issued in 1992. 2020-10-01 14:53
MisterZ AUI think this might be a Fairmont, because it's got the chrome trim on the B pillar. It's lacking the chrome strip on the side, but considering the age of the vehicle, this isn't too out of the ordinary (it's also lacking a windscreen wiper, for example, so it's a bit beat up). It's possible that it was damaged at some point, and repaired using parts from a Falcon instead of Fairmont, or that panel was resprayed and the trim just wasn't put back on. In fact, the mis-matched light blue paint on the driver's side kind of proves my point here.

Other suggestions that it's a Fairmont - the passenger side mirror was more commonly fitted to Fairmonts than it was Falcons (it was optional on both, but rare on Falcon), as was the vinyl roof. Also, a higher proportion of Fairmonts survived into old age compared to Falcons, because they were more valuable/desirable.

MisterZ AUSt. Kilda Motor Inn seen here, which was demolished only a few years after this aired. It was located on Canterbury Rd, St. Kilda West, and was replaced with dozens of 2 storey townhouses. One of them was made famous by former footballer/celebrity Sam Newman due to the controversial Pamela Anderson mural on the front: https://static.domain.com.au/domainblog/uploads/2017/06/23150815/2_gwuj8o.jpg 2019-07-21 16:24

Never seen one with painted mirrors before - quite unusual. I don't believe they came painted from the factory.

130rapid PL'Beetle' is (very popular) but nickname still.
Australian 50s advertisments said just 'Volkswagen'.
Only one genuine 1955 advertisment claimed '5-seater Saloon'.
Time to time you can read 'Deluxe' name.
Info about 1961 new 66 cars fleet for Avis rent-a-car use the name '1200 Deluxe'
The '1200 Standard' was available for 1963.

That Doughnut van in the background is still in existence. It dates from the 1950's. One is currently $1.10 but there's less jam these days than before. Taken at QV Market in Queen St. I prefer Olympic Doughnuts outside Footscray Railway Station. 80 cents and tastes better plus the jam dispenser is cool as!
