blue_thunder ![]() | @ mackster: Don't mix things. The GLT 16 Valve were naturally aspired, not turbocharged as the 740 Turbo. There is a difference between them. The only available engine in Germany for the GLT 16 Valve was the B234F engine. Check out the brochure: http://www.volvoforum.at/dld/740_mj_1990_kurz.pdf @ Some admin: The car shown is a '90 740 GLT 16 Valve. Check out the '92 MY 940 Turbo pic on page 3 in the middle, the before mentioned little "VOLVO" badge on the front fender is missing. All 940 lacks that. http://www.volvoforum.at/dld/940_mj1992_ausstattung_daten.pdf This ist the only exterieur detail that makes it possible to difference bewtween 740 GLT 16V and 940 Turbo. And if i look closely, the car in the main image has 740 headrests as well. -- Last edit: 2013-07-16 09:55:30 |

blue_thunder ![]() | Concerning this one, I'm still pretty sure it's a 1990 740 (745) GLT 16 Valve. Link to "carpatys.com" |

blue_thunder ![]() | I'd rather say this is a 1990 Volvo 740 (745) GLT 16 Valve than a 940 Turbo. The GLT 16V was the only 700series Volvo carrying the '91+ 940 Turbo front fascia. Note the little "Volvo" lettering on the front fender, AFAIK '91+ 940 didn't have that. Here is a 91+ 940 Turbo in comparison with 740 GLT 16 Valve (note the lack of Volvo lettering in fender) /vehicle.php?id=359731&l=de |

ingo ![]() | Yes, only in the first months and only for the small engine (it was available for extra charge though - typical Volkswagen...) | 2010-11-11 21:33
stu ![]() | Aha, Brezelgolf never heard that name, but as I sayed, never learn enough... Drumbrakes, yes, but just for the 74 basic Golfs (Ithink for the 50 HP only) | 2010-10-13 16:24
cl82 ![]() | Yes, I know the story about the extra pumping pedal, but it's still funny each time I hear it. And the basic 0.9 litre-engine is another story. At least the mechanical parts were more reliable then. My car was made in early '93( in Navarra ), even before the horrible Lopez-effect took place and it still leaves much to desire. No ABS, no power-brakes, no power steering. I'll never understand why the first owner cancelled all that and ordered a (probably quite expensive)sunroof instead. And everything that doesn't belong to the basic technical layout (engine, suspension, brakes) is rubbish and was designed to last no more than ten years. Still, in spite of its ruined interior and moody electrics it keeps on running with minimum maintenance which is the only reason why I haven't scrapped it yet. And the only reason why I got it in the first place was because it came for free with only repairs for a couple of hundred Euros in parts to do and almost 1 year TÜV left. That was in 2005, and I planned to get rid of it in 2006. But all the years that have passed since then have convinced me that there are many ways to travel faster but almost none to travel cheaper. It taught me modesty and a way of more relaxed driving . I can't say I like my car, but I sure have learnt to appreciate it. It sure would be nice to have a faster or more comfortable car, but it's not really necessary in the end. I can recall a fitting quote from Kierkegaard saying: Das Vergleichen ist das Ende des Glücks und der Anfang der Unzufriedenheit., so there's more in life than having a nice automobile. I hope I won't get banned from this site for this comment... |

ingo ![]() | Only the basic Golf I and only in the first months had brake-drums in the front. And your Polo Fox is a luxourious equipped limo, compared with the earliest basic Polo's. Do you know, what was available for them only for extra charge? For example: right sunvisor, glovebox-lid, day-odometer, door-look for the right side, heated back screen (o.k.,this was always an extra at VW, same with laminated front screen and a right mirror) and many other thing, too. Not to forget the electric washer-pump. Otherwise you had a rubber-pedal for pumping besides the clutch. |

cl82 ![]() | Drums in the front? I didn't know that. Oh dear. As a Polo Fox driver I know how frugal VW basic trims are, but this really takes the bisquit... |
