TWS CAIt is a 1972 Delta 88 Royale. It has the chrome gills on the front fender and thin chrome with a painted insert to match vinyl top (Royales only). The 1971 Delta 88 4 doors didn't have gills. 1973 Delta Royales had the chrome gills but had a thicker side chrome with vinyl insert that usually matched the vinyl top color or interior color with no vinyl top. 2014-03-07 04:09

Rear door on a sedan is a dead giveaway. For 72 the door handles are at the same height and belt line is flat and kicks up sharply. For 71 the rear handle is higher than the front and the beltline is a gentle slope that starts halfway back on the door. Post 71 - rocker panel and fender edge (not visible here) are trimmed in stainless. 73 - front bumper juts beyond the front edge of the fender. Yep. I need to brush up on my taillights on those years though - I can tell them from the front a lot better than the rear.

rjluna2 USI was checking on the Collectible Automobile for the Maverick series and I found these missing script at the C-piller was used in 1976/77 model year.

However, I also checked out Tad Burness American Car Spotter's Bible 1940-1980 for Mercury Comet and found no script at the C-piller from 1974 through 1977 model year.

I am willing to entertain your suggestion :/

atom SEI feel a bit stupid now when you mention the ridge...My reasoning that led to 1961 was that it was missing the three chiny bits on the door for the '63. In the other picture it looks to be dented where the chrome bits were placed on the '61. Ruling out '62 because of the damage and the trim, the damage didn't seem to go that far and we would still see the chrome bit closest to the wheel arch. 2012-03-21 04:20
