993cc ![]() | Also note the door handle. It's the standard flush 105/115 coupe handle. GTA's had older style external handle I assume main pic and thumbnail cars are same model. |

993cc ![]() | Car 61E has serpent on c-pillar hence a Sprint Veloce, GTA's didn't have that. I can't say anything about main pic car. I don't see the grille bars myself. | 2020-04-15 22:46

dsl ![]() | Good work. Found 2 more buried amongst our Galaxies. | 2015-12-20 22:03
nzcarnerd ![]() | I did a small amount of digging on this subject and found this - Link to "www.fordmuscleforums.com" - . To quote the relevant part " Most of you would know that before 1965, to get a Galaxie in Australia you had to import one in yourself from the US. From 1965, Ford did assemble Galaxies in Sydney for the local market from knock down kits sourced from Ford's Canadian arm. They came in a choice of 289 or 390, but only the 4 x door sedan was available. Less than 5000 were ever assembled between 1965 and 1972. A small number of Galaxies were converted into Ambulances in the '60s..." So I guess this one is model origin - Canada, built Australia. -- Last edit: 2015-12-20 21:50:12 |

dsl ![]() | Covers 1963 to 1997 only according to commentary - frustratingly difficult to work out which races/drivers/cars in many cases as commentary/captions often unhelpful - it's just lots of clips squeezed together without overall editing; also lots of repetition as clips/cars crop up again in different segments. But wiki - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathurst_1000 - has huge race-by-race detail info, so most details eventually found. But it's a great way to spend 45 minutes watching some very exciting and gripping footage, and you get a real sense of why Bathurst is so important for motor-racing in Aus, and of some of the epic races and drives which have happened. And it looks an amazing racetrack. Have replaced some pictures on like-for-like - my copy probably much the same quality as marioman's first go, but some of the later colour footage seems better on mine; a few new entries added, plus timings, ID info, lots of comments pictures etc. Most of marioman's thumbs have disappeared, so not apparent now what they were. |

dsl ![]() | 1983 - "Dick Johnson crashed in Hardies Heroes destroying his Greens-Tuf Falcon. In a show of goodwill no other teams in the race objected to the replacement #17 car starting the race from 10th position." says wiki. But he retired after 61 laps anyway - co-driver in race was Kevin "Camaro smasher" Bartlett. Bits of this sequence repeated several times during film. |

dsl ![]() | Agreed, Brock in 1985, Holden VK Commodore. Another sequence in pits at 39-50 - he's lost the windscreen, so gets blackflagged into pits to get rear screen removed as well under the rules .... which means I'm now confused about which race this Brock #05 Holden comes from ![]() |

dsl ![]() | This is 1997 race as the Laguna spins behind. Looks like #12 numbering = Nigel Barclay private entry, Nigel Barclay/Blair Smith/Jim Cornish, listed as BMW 318i. Retired early - apparently before the Laguna. Surprised that it's LHD in Aus - maybe an ex-Europe factory car?? |
2015-12-20 17:56 | ||
dsl ![]() | 1997 race, #8 Volvo Dealer Racing, Jan Nilsson/Cameron McLean, Volvo 850, finished 5th. It avoided hitting the Renault here. |
2015-12-20 16:51 | ||
dsl ![]() | Confirmed as 97 race, #23 just about legible = Williams Renault Dealer Racing, Alan Jones/Graham Moore Renault Laguna | 2015-12-20 16:44
dsl ![]() | Unclear which race, but I guess about 1990 from soft-front car shapes | 2015-12-20 16:30
dsl ![]() | 1976 race - the spinning Capri is #32 Lawrie Nelson/Nick Louis | 2015-12-20 16:25
dsl ![]() | 1971 race, Leo Geoghegan in the Valiant Charger (#43D, finished 7th) carving up an innocent Datsun 1200 (see separate page) - very poor driving by Leo. | 2015-12-20 16:21
dsl ![]() | 1994 race confirmed, #57 Darrel Dixon entry, Bill Sieders/Allan Letcher, Peugeot 405 Mi16 |
2015-12-20 16:17 | ||
dsl ![]() | Main could be 1988 race, #57 Mobil 1 Racing team, David Parsons/Jim Richards, BMW M3. Or 1989 race, #57 Sax Racing entry from NZ, Craig Turner/Kent Baigent/Lou Vandermeer, BMW M3 A Starion goes past just before the capture, and there were Starions in both races, plus we're told the M3 was running 3rd in class. My guess from livery without obvious Mobil logos this is 89 race, but as a private team car could be older. |
2015-12-20 15:22 | ||
dsl ![]() | 1987 race, #57 Australia Caltex CXT Racing team entry, Colin Bond/Lucio Cesario, just listed as Alfa Romeo 75. Cesario was driving here. | 2015-12-20 15:10
mike962 ![]() | this is a 3AA rules car , also know as "V8 Supercar" | 2015-12-20 15:06
dsl ![]() | 1992 race - commentary describes Peter Brock incidents in #05 - #16 Holden (the collision) driven by Allan Grice, then #18 Sierra spin by Greg Crick (no contact) |
2015-12-20 15:00 | ||
dsl ![]() | Confusing presentation in film of Brock's incidents in 85 and 86 in white Mobil logo'd Holdens #05, which make it difficult to be sure which sequences belong to which year, plus there are repeated excerpts which may mix years. However am reasonably sure main and this batch are all 86, which was dry. ![]() |

dsl ![]() | 1987 race - #91 Australia Toyota Team John Faulkner/Mike Quinn, listed as Toyota Corolla GT. Car parked on right with bent front wheel is #90, same Australia Toyota Team Drew Price/John Smith Toyota Corolla GT. | 2015-12-20 05:00
dsl ![]() | 1984 race - #12 John Goss Racing Pty. Ltd entry, John Goss/Tom Walkinshaw, Jaguar XJS - "Cars 12, 34 & 77 were involved in a startline accident when the #12 Jaguar XJS had clutch failure at the start. This caused the race to be stopped and for the first time in the race's history there was a complete restart. All three cars failed to take the restart." |

dsl ![]() | Confirmed as 76 race for the Dolomite Sprint - see that page. There were 5 competing RX-3s there. The Capri facing wrong way which has just been kissed by the Mazda is #32 Lawrie Nelson/Nick Louis. Both Mazda and the Capri carried on after this incident. | 2015-12-20 04:13
dsl ![]() | 1976 race had two 2002 Tii, #56 and #57, both retired. The spinning Capri is #32 Lawrie Nelson/Nick Louis which confirms 1976. | 2015-12-20 04:10

dsl ![]() | 1989 race, #05 Mobil 1 Racing team, Peter Brock/Andy Rouse, Ford Sierra RS500; retired | 2015-12-20 03:16
dsl ![]() | 1988 race, #51 Phil Ward Racing team Phil Ward/David Clement, Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.3-16. dsl ![]() | 1982 race, #35 Ron Gillard/Phil Alexander, Mazda RX-7, finished 10th. Identifiable as #35 or 36 onscreen, but there was no #36 in 82 and key clue is car retiring in background - #41 JPS Team BMW 635 CSi Denny Hulme/Stephen Brook | 2015-12-20 02:21
dsl ![]() | 1982 race, #9 Nine Network Racing Team Kevin Bartlett/Colin Bond, Chevrolet Camaro Z28 - was in 4th place - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=423qAJG133Q . First Bathurst race was 78 - http://www.bowdensown.com.au/collection/kevin-bartletts-z28-camaro | 2015-12-20 02:10

dsl ![]() | 1995 race - dealing with aftermath of /vehicle.php?id=216580 fire. Also FIR300 in undated sequence at17-19 (though probably 95 as well) - can anyone date the plate? If it's another same 1985 XF Ute, I might swap the pictures around. |

dsl ![]() | Yes. Richards was NZ driver, and he'd just been told about death of his friend (Denny Hulme) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJfgQCuj3do - so maybe he wasn't in the best mood to be wound up by petulant losers or pissed fans. | 2015-12-20 00:00
