chicomarx ![]() | ^Although in the actual article (big word for this) referred to as "the internet", but it's a start. (My brother thought it was a long wheelbase MG or Aston Martin but the internet says it’s a 1971 Alfa Romeo.) Charlize Theron I'm guessing battles and defeats Russian agents here, credible feminist angle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ca4lnPwnX3E |

Gamer ![]() | When Charlize Theron is sitting in the V8, you can see at least 2 anachronistic cars (a Ford Focus Turnier and a Splash/Agila) go by. There's also a Peugeot Boxer which is seen more clearly. |

aolju ![]() | I honestly don't get why people get so angry because of that. We've seen actors fighting Russian agents and similar enemies before, from Sean Connery to Tom Cruise or Matt Damon, yet no one questioned it, but now Theron doesn't get a pass because she's a woman? We accept a lot of impossible scenarios in action movies, but not that? Actually, it's perfecty natural that a woman can fight. Fighting isn't all about weight or strength if one is trained, and, as far as I know, there are martial arts with techniques designed to use an enemy's strength against him (Judo, Jiu-jitsu, etc.) which are actually used in this movie. As for Charlize Theron being able to do this or not, she's an actress, and her job is precisely to pretend to be someone else, and that includes fighting skills and, in my opinion, her fights in the movie were handled really well, with her doing most of her stuntwork (just like Keanu Reeves in "John Wick", by the same director, which was not questioned for it's believability) Sorry for this long, off-topic comment, but I'm baffled at how realism is suddenly so discussed in a movie, just because the lead is a woman. |

Gamer ![]() | I was more upset about how she beat up the West German cops. I don't know why, but I was. Generally I found her character strangely unlikeable, though the movie was good. |

mikepdx ![]() | I've added the AMC Pacer that I was astonished to see in the foreground parked at Templehof Airport when she arrives in West Berlin. I have no picture as the film is in first run here in the US. | 2017-09-05 20:07 |
chicomarx ![]() | Those videos are semi-sarcastic, it's a Scottish comedian. But he does identify the underlying cultural problems, which may not exist in Spain yet. For the serious stuff this Canadian psychology professor is extremely interesting... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XY7a1RXMbHI |

rtsbusman1997 ![]() | IMO, having a female character be badass these days doesn't feel as organic as it used to be. It seems less like trying to make the film interesting and more like film makers are trying to inject some hot feminism into a random story for no reason but to be hip or something. I say 2012-2013 is when the "female badass" trope became politicized in most western markets. that's a weird thing a lot of action films have these days: the main good character/s beating up cops that really didn't do anything other than their job (basically a lazy way of saying, "look what this character can do".) as for her character, Charlize Theron is one of those actresses that play different characters using the same standoffish disposition that's just not endearing whatsoever (similar to Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Lawrence) |
