MisterZ ![]() | @mike962 - a lot of the captures you've uploaded for this show are the wrong aspect ratio. Season 4 & 5 - you uploaded at 640x380 (or 1.68:1). The proper ratio is 1.77:1 which would equate to 640x360. Season 6 - you uploaded at 640x400 (or 1.6:1). Also, seasons 1-3 appear to be 1.4:1 ratio, which is quite a bit off from 1.33:1 broadcast ratio. -- Last edit: 2015-05-08 16:06:16 |

antp ![]() | For 20 pixels difference, is it really worth the work? When I've some time I could check if I can do that easily directly on the server |

MisterZ ![]() | @antp - It's not just seasons 4-6 either, it's most of them. Here's an example from season 1: current image vs. proper image (from DVD): The first one is badly stretched, with a 1.52:1 aspect ratio (the correct ratio should be 1.3:1). Instead of 663x435, it should be 565x435 - a difference of 100 pixels! Some are the right ratio, but wrong for other reasons, like this one: /vehicle_41440-Toyota-Camry-Wagon-XV10-1995.html (which I'm assuming was uploaded by a different person). Right ratio, but too big (should be maximum of 498 pixels high, not 576, and without the black borders). Shouldn't these images have undergone a bit more scrutiny by the mods before being accepted?? I think I will have to replace the captures for this whole show with higher quality ones from the DVD, but this will take several months. -- Last edit: 2015-05-07 13:50:03 |

MisterZ ![]() | @antp - did you read my comment above, with the example pictures? | 2015-05-08 10:46 |
antp ![]() | You added the example pictures after I saw the comment, I guess. The difference is not so easy to notice when you don't have the right pic to compare. Due to amount of data (pictures & comments) that admins have to check, things can be missed. The too big ones were added long time ago, when picture size limits were different (720x576 max, before we had HD). If you have better pictures, you can submit them. I'm not sure it is worth replacing cases like that Camry though, if the new one isn't really better except the cropped black border. |

MisterZ ![]() | This is true, but the dimensions alone of that image make no sense. How can it be 1.52:1? Since it's from a 1996 episode (before widescreen), then it can only be 4:3 ratio. I will replace all the images, even the ones that are "okay". Seeing as 90% of the current ones are the wrong ratio, doing the remainder won't be much extra effort. I'm already noticing many cars that were missed. However, since these DVDs are out of print, getting ahold of all episodes will not be possible. I might be able to only replace 85-90%. Hopefully the ratio of the remaining ones can be manually changed?I'm also surprised at how bad the quality of the current captures is. I thought it might just be due to the way the show was filmed ("All Saints" being an example of terrible video quality in the early episodes, before it went digital), but the quality is actually very good - 16mm film (like "Stingers") not video. -- Last edit: 2015-05-13 12:34:28 |

antp ![]() | If you have time to do that... (saving them one by one, resizing, making a zip with all of them - as I don't have a much quicker way to do it, even with a direct access to the server, I can't easily get all "remaining" pics) -- Last edit: 2015-05-08 16:08:23 |

Sandie ![]() | The person who added these captures has a tendency to add captures made from scanning YouTube videos (mousing over the timebar and seeing if cars are seen). As such, quality is low, cars are missed and ratio often is wrong (and I'd not be surprised if you resize the ratio to match the DVDs and the picture still looks wrong because bits are often cut off the frame in YouTube videos). |
