W114/115-based. New mirror, but old taillights. No idea about the coachbuilder. Obviously no Binz. |

could be 1974+ W114 230 Visser Netherlands as they allways used sixcyl 230 https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8321/28789059750_880110f29f_b.jpg 1972 in link -- Last edit: 2016-12-26 11:18:52 |

How do you know they only used 230 as base? |

there is a factory photo labeled 220 D / 230 so i have to admit it could be a 220 D either Link to "www.amazon.com" @ chicomarx, is there a chance to detrmine by sound? I remember sixcyl once did with such a Visser Benz here a 1968 220D Visser Link to "www.wallpaperup.com" -- Last edit: 2016-12-27 14:37:06 |

I'm not an expert like sixcyl. How does a Visser Benz sound? |

@chiromax: It's very difficult to find proper engine sounds on the tube, but here are a few examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZURYkDTrjGM which is the sound of a six cylinder Mercedes engine, similar to the 230. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uO_QO2lPbWU which is how a healthy Diesel engine should sound like, similar the 220 D. |

Hard to decide. There's the noise of the DAF trucks in the background when this goes by. Let's say Visser as I'm not hearing a definitive diesel sound. |

...but andrepa just wrote "i have to admit it could be a 220 D either" so what's the point of comparing? Visser used both engines. 230 then, and what sixcyl did was impossible. |

Moreover, knowing they often replace sounds by others that sound better... |

@chiromax: Visser did not make any engines themselves, but used stock Mercedes ones, as did other coach builders like Miessen or Binz. If you decide to go for any of the options, it should be noted that they are built on different chassis: Mercedes-Benz 230 are using a [W 114] chassis, and Mercedes-Benz 220 D are using a [W 115] chassis. I'd vote for a [W 114] 230, as that one was conciderably faster than the Diesel version, and I belive speed is of importance when concerning ambulances. I know that Swedish hospitals only specified six cylinder versions. |
