Are you sure it's not a Serena? |
|

Pretty sure. The Serena had body-coloured bumpers or grey cladding, whereas the Vanette Cargo had black bumpers and no cladding, as on this example. EDIT: or... looking around a bit, I see that some early Serenas had this configuration as well. I guess we can list it as Serena for now due to the wheelcovers (all VCs had steel wheels) - it's really difficult to find info on these vans. No, wait... it's a Vanette E. -- Last edit: 2016-12-08 15:32:43 |

Indeed, I've noticed also that Vanette E has a single big boot-lid (like the Serena), the Vanette Cargo instead has two small doors |

I've done some searching and this is what I've found (mostly applying to the UK market) for the European Serenas: January 1993: Serena introduced. January 1995: Vanette Cargo introduced. This seems to apply across Europe as it was at a show in Belgium. At some point there was a facelift where all versions got a different grille and a new bumper (with different vents, no indicators and foglight holes): ![]() My guess would be this came in July 1996 when new trims and a new 1.6 was introduced. One of the articles I used for info is illustrated with a facelift one on an August 1996 plate whilst pictures of ones from earlier in 1996 have the older bumper and grille. April 1997: Occasion trim introduced on the Serena. This is the easy to spot two-tone one with painted silver lower part, but may have been introduced elsewhere with a different name at a different time. June 1998: Vanette E introduced in the UK, but it definitely came earlier elsewhere. I found a 1995 one on a Dutch site. The question there is whether it then was first seen at the same time as the Cargo or two years earlier with the Serena. January 2002: No more Serenas (and I guess Vanette Es and Cargos). My questions are whether Vanette E was used as a name everywhere (it seems to be right for the UK and the Netherlands) and if there's any major differences in the dates in the rest of Europe. Hope this helps. -- Last edit: 2016-12-08 17:50:34 |

Ran from July 1998 on. Seem to have gone all the way up to 2002 at least: https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7368/15780611163_6430dee2ff_b.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1157/5122564533_56eaa52ae7.jpg http://www.motorstown.com/images/ldv-cub-03.jpg |

I don't remember a "Vanette E" name. I'd have a look in the price lists printed in a belgian magazine from the 1990s, but they only covered road cars, not commercial vehicles, so I don't think it was mentioned. |

I don't remember the name Vanette E in Italy, too. Could they be called just Vanette? I think the van ones I see were badged Vanette..and indeed it isn't easy to find info about Euro Vanettes (C220 and C23) even though they weren't rare sights. I also believe regular roof and Cargos arrived together here.. Edit: the name Vanette E was used also in Italy: https://it.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nissan_Vanette_E_2.3d_rear.JPG I made a brief research and the earliest I can find here is 1997, but they are often mixed with Cargos in marketplace sites.. -- Last edit: 2020-01-17 01:04:01 |
