For Vedette it is better to put trim name in model name, as these cars are are usually more known by that name... |

Ford vs. Simca (or Vedette) during 1954 - 1959 seems to be an eternal question. What really happened ? Simca bought the Ford S.A.F. (the French Ford operations) in 1954 and made an agreement with Ford for marketing Vedettes in export markets. This made sense as the cars were technically Fords and they did not quite fit into the Simca model range. In Finland the importer was - or rather continued to be - Oy Ford Ab (a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company in Dearborn) who never called the car a Ford Vedette - just Vedette. Even the official registration statistics show that the cars were listed as the make would be Vedette. The situation changed in 1959 when Chrysler bought Simca. The new importer in Finland was the Simca/Chrysler importer (Oy Berner Ab - very familiar with V8-engined cars,of course)and the cars were called Simca Vedettes from now on - also in the registration statistics. - So if you want to follow Vedettes in the Finnish statistics properly, you have to look at the figures under three headings: Ford, Vedette and Simca. |
