Seen extensively in every episode Vanden Plas EFi rear badge just about legible Plate is a problem as A63 CNP comes up as a Toyota Celica Supra, but there seems to be a batch of July 1984 3500 Vanden Plas EFi in this sequence (eg A53, A62 etc; A67 was a 3500 Vitesse), so I guess it is genuine for this Rover and not as recorded. |

There is no reason why this number could not have been genuine on the Rover when it was new, and have been transferred several times in the last 32 years. My number follows me from car to car and is in the same format, X99 XXX, as is this one. |

I think you're right "A63 CNP is a red 1984 Toyota Celica Supra with a numberplate first registered in Worcester in 1983. This Coupe was first used on the road on 15 October 1984. A63 CNP has also previously been associated with B148 RRJ. Tax Status Vehicle is declared SORN (off the road) MOT Status Not MOT'd. Last MOT expired September 5, 2009 First Registered October 15 1984" So as an Oct 84 Celica it should have had a B plate, which it seems was the case pre-transfer as B148 RRJ. And it's been off the road since 2009. |

From my experience in 2012, changing the Audi to the Mercédès, the new car is (has to be?) registered by the supplying garage in its normal block of indices, the cherished number is transferred to it, and the index from the garage's block is put into suspended animation until the car is sold on, when the process is repeated. I still see the Audi quite often around town, carrying its original "55" plate. I have the "61" plates for the Mercédès, which it carried for about a week, in the garage at home. |

So the initial "normal" registration supplied from showroom gets re-instated if/when the cherished number is removed? So in effect there is a registration-at-birth which remains attached to the car through/underneath whatever transferred plates may be adopted? |

It would seem so from my experience. I was given the list of indices released en bloc to the garage by DVLA and offered the opportunity of choosing one. This appeared on the car when I collected it from the showroom, and I then returned about a week later and waited while the garage put the new plates with my cherished number on the car. -- Last edit: 2016-11-08 17:59:51 |
