 According to allpar.com, no known Plainsman-based ambulances existed to this is a Royal.

Ambulances had specially built bodies and were not converted from Plainsmans as far as we know. A few custom built hearses (similar to ambulance bodies) also exist in the AP3 series.


I misstated earlier; ambulance versions of the wagon do exist but they're similar to GM Suburban ambulances in the US and were sold in very low numbers (48 for this year, according to allpar). The ambulance in question likely has one of those coachbuilt bodies.

Just noticed this:
Quote Both models are extremely rare; just 224 Plainsmans and 1,205 Wayfarers were sold between 1958 and 1960. The Plainsman was made in both AP1 and AP2 series, while the Wayfarer was made in the AP2 and AP3 series.


Plainsmans being unavailable in AP3 and the relative scarcity of Wayfarers for this year argue that this is based on one of the 1100+ Royals.

 Chrysler Australia also offered the Royal as a chassis & cowl (similar to the Cadillac commercial chassis) that were available to buy and fit custom bodywork.
