I am a bit puzzled here .The car is indeed a Stanley record machine but the 1906 Stanley factory built "beetle" or "rocket" that broke the record of 127.6 mph driven by Fred Marriott at Ormond Beach Fla in 1906 had a V front and a smaller exhaust tube .This one has a round pointed front and a long exhaust tube .It may be Louis S. Ross's " Teakettle" Stanley that set a measured mile at 94.73 mph in 1905.If anyone has more information I would be inetrested. |

Did some further research. This is indeed not Marriott's 1906 Stanley "Beetle" but Louis Ross's 1905 Stanley "Teakettle" which covered the mile at 94.73 mph a year earlier in 1905 also at Ormond Beach Fla .Together with a Mercedes ( Bowden) and a Napier ( Macdonald) they broke former 1904 Vanderbilt cup records. |
