I think it has the 1983+ black side mirrors. |

The car looks immaculate, but the faded center caps are a dead giveaway that it is indeed a 33-year-old car. Couldn't the art department have at least printed out a few BMW logos to stick on them? -- Last edit: 2017-11-01 10:50:50 |

Kinda weird for a high school student to have one of these. Even though mommy and daddy bought it for him, obviously. Still, why wouldn't they buy him something like a 5 or even 3 series? I would think a HS kid would want something sporty. This is the full sized flagship BMW. It would almost be like buying a HS kid a brand new 1983 Cadillac Brougham or Lincoln Town Car. But maybe BMW was thought of differently, as more sporty in general. I dunno. |

No, you're right. I was thinking that too. Sure, it's a cool classic quirky car for a high schooler to have today, but back then? This was the car exclusively driven by established doctors and attorneys. |

I have to agree as cool as it is to see the E23 733i in this series it’s a bit unrealistic for a high school kid to be driving back then. If I’m not mistaken the sales price for a 1984 733i was $36k to $38k which isn’t outrageous today but adjusting for inflation it was a very very expensive luxury vehicle. Back in those days you could buy a modest home in the Silicon Valley area for $110k. Big luxury Cadillacs and Lincoln’s didn’t exceed the high $20ks. In the early 80’s my older brother went to HS at Woodside High School in Redwood City/Woodside California and a spoiled country club kid’s Beemer back then was a 1982 320i. Then again when I was in high school some spoiled kids parents bought him a brand new full sized Lexus LS400 so maybe it’s not so far fetched, lol! |
