1980-1985 Volvo 240 wagon. Possibly a GLT because it has a black side-trim/rubber without a chrome line. The mirror was changed to a more modern one in 1986. And it has the 1980+ front facelift. |

@LucasKroon: Welcome to the IMCDB! You are on to something, but not quite there yet. This is a homepage that really dig deep into something most other people otherwise find obscure and uninteresting, but eventually can be facinating if you notice all the differences between models. That is not only differences between models within a brand (like Volvo), but also differences between legislations in various countries (U.S. legislation didn't allow glass in the head lamps in case it would shatter) and ways to stand out. The 240 face lift was indeed introduced in 1980, but after the industrial hollidays, and presented as the 1981 Model Year. Hence a Model Year used to cover cars made (roughly) August until June the following year with the latter year as the Model Year identification. That has changed since a few years ago, as some companies took it to the extreme and sold cars as new although they had been made several years ago. Today Model Year should identify the actual year it was made. In the early 60's Volvo used both years for identification, like a 1962/63 Volvo PV 544, but it's not used on the imcdb because it's too complicated. The GLT had indeed black vinyl around the side windows, but the DL and the GL had it too. The difference was that the GLT had the rain gutter (=dropplisten) in black as well, which this hasn't. Hence this is either a DL or a GL. -- Last edit: 2016-05-22 12:00:29 |

I was talking about the trim on the side, running the length of the car. It is below the door-handles and above the keyhole. |

Several sightings in ep7. "A476 GGW is a beige 1984 Volvo 240 DL Auto with a numberplate first registered in London SE in 1983. This Estate was first used on the road on 19 April 1984." |

@LucasKroon: I understand that, but you have to take the whole car into consideration before you can make a proper assessment. It's very difficult; I don't know it all, but only some of it: - If it has all strips in black, including the rain gutter, and also has metallic paint, it can be a GLT. - If it has the side strip partly chromed it can be a GL (European spec) or a GLE (that is GL in U.S. spec), but it can also be a Diesel. - If it has chromed rain gutter, but black side strip it's a DL (European spec, U.S. spec had chrome in the side strip on the DL as well). That covers the years 1983 or possibly 1984 and a few years on. |

The car was also in the series Marcella. It is strange that 2 series with no obvious production connections except that they were both made for ITV should both use a 22 year old car. Here it is in Marcella![]() |

@naszdom: It looks as if you posted your comment on the wrong entry. Whcih other show does it appear in? |

Remember there being an old Volvo a lot like this in: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5973164/?ref_=nv_sr_1 So probably that. Unless there is yet another ITV show where this car is prominently used. |
