J'espère qu'il s'agit d'une réplique ou d'une auto moins rare, vu comme elle est maltraitée (elle défonce un mur et se fait ensuite tirer dessus par un hélicoptère, entre autres) -- Last edit: 2005-06-18 11:12:42

70mstang ◊ 2006-06-11 07:54	there's definitely two of these in the movie, the continuity is bad, sometimes the wheel is on the right(correctly) and sometimes it's on the left(incorrectly) the one with the correct steering may very well be the real thing.

tha278 ◊ 2006-06-26 18:57	What a surprise to read 70mstang's comment ! So, I have a look again to the movie, and of course I saw the "left" steering wheel in a very short scene and only one. I really don't understand how it is possible. Two "replicas" were made for this movie, and one have been seriously damaged during the very first days of the production, but it can not explain this error, the two bodies came from the same excellent french coachbuilder. So, except if they use a different chassis (improvised and unexpected) with the second body to finish a part of their shooting, this is a mystery, at least for me. PLease note : the Voisin C28 never existed as an open tourer model, but the director understood how it could be difficult to have a good light on his actors with a closed car so he ask a "cabriolet"... tha278 ◊ 2006-06-30 15:45	I think I have the solution. During the only and very short scene where I saw the wheel on the left side of the car, I noticed that... the shadows are also reversed. So they certainly made a mystake in shooting this scene and found this only way to have a correct continuity in the action but not on the rest of the elements. What do you think ? Have no proof or any concrete evidence but I made an account just for this, so whether you choose to believe me or not is up to you. I'll start a few months back. I hear my dad and a few of his mates exchanging stories at the table. One in particular comes up about an amazing car collection my dad had witnessed. As a casual story goes, there are no specific details, but he mentioned a few things of note. A really old French car, which he claimed was one of the first made, some kind of car with something pertaining to Elvis Presley and lastly a red 'Mercedes', which he insisted was at one point owned by none other than Hitler himself. An old red 'Mercedes' whose owner wanted to paint it blue and desecrate it's originality with a hasty paintjob just because he didn't like the red. My Dad claims to have talked him out of it, saying that he was 'mad in the f*cking head' for wanting to do so. I listened, I laughed. I moved on. Heard nothing more of it until months later when we are driving through Northern Ireland to collect a fridge. Just outside of Newry, on the A28, he tells me to keep an eye out for a big shed. Funny I thought, since most of the buildings on that road were large sheds. But this one he has particular interest in. We end up passing it, and he starts telling me about the owner, and the contents of the shed. He likes to repeat stories, bless him, so I get to hear the spiel of an old friend of his who collects cars. He tells me of the old French wagon, the Elvis car and one such red 'Mercedes'. He tells me it was used in a movie. Some movie about Matthew McConaughey in a desert in a red 'Mercedes' that was owned by Hitler. Now, I've never seen the movie, but this I was interested in. I start googling all the buzzwords he has thrown at me, as I know that with these verbal stories most of the detail gets lost along the way. I can't imagine there are many people other than me in the world who have googled "Matthew McConaughey", "desert nazi car chase" and "Hitler red Mercedes" all in the same time frame but I'm imagining it has landed me on some kind of short list. I somehow managed to find nothing, but I never gave it much thought. So here we are at present day, I'm sat at 10:30pm on a Friday scrolling through movies to watch with a friend. 'Mud' starring Matthew McConaughey comes up on Netflix and I google the cast to see who's in it. I end up seeing a list of movies that Matthew McConaughey has starred in, and I end up seeing "Sahara (2005)". The story immediately rushes back to me and I start once more on my mild goose chase to find this red nazi 'Mercedes'. That's when I find this thread, and these photos. I can see how it was mistaken for an old Merc, given the general shape of it, and I have no idea what the correlation with Hitler is as I've never seen the movie. I sent photos of it to my Dad for confirmation and I was right. That's the same car he saw in a garage in Northern Ireland. It's the same one he stopped being painted a stale blue. I never intended on this being an essay, but in the absence of any concrete evidence I hope you trust my level of detail and enthusiasm about this enough to believe me. TL;DR, This car is in a shed in NI and my Dad stopped the owner from painting it duck egg blue.
