4x4peru ◊ 2007-03-03 06:29	Bantam was instrumental in the developement of the WWII 1/4 ton vehicle known world wide as a "jeep" but the actual build contract went to Willys & Ford with reason given that Bantam (a small company)could not meet the number of units required. The easiest way to distinguish a Ford from a Willys if to see the front cross member. In most pictures this is difficult but a few on the site are Ford and listed Willys, not a big deal. Several other minor details need a clear close up to see the difference. The front bumpers were slightly different but a great many of these vehicles were sent to rebuild centers where Willys and Ford parts were used interchangably to rebuild fresh trucks. Just the bumper is not enough to be sure unless one knows the vehicle is 100% original. My comment was "front bumper of the Ford GPW". I have seen most of the jeep pics on the site and if clearly a Ford GPW by the "U" channel front cross member I commented as such. I enjoy this site and the many educated motorheads that share in it.
