Sur la capture de antp, il s'agit d'une Cadillac de 1945. Mais sur la principale, ce n'est pas une Cadillac : les montants de portières sont bien trop épais, de plus la lunette arrière et le montant "C" ne sont pas séparées d'une baguette avec le coffre. Et puis de simples enjoliveurs de moyeux, sur une Cad', j'y crois pas... Sans grande conviction, je dirais une Dodge, ou une De Soto de 1940. |

Si, Si. Il y a eu des Cad' avec de simples enjoliveurs de moyeux. Les chapeaux de roues étaient offerts en option. Le calandre (en vue rapprochée) est celle d'une Cadillac de l'année 1942 (cercles de phare peints et non chromés, feux de position ronds dans les coins sjpérieurs de la calandre). |

De toute évidence la vignette montrant la calandre et la photo principale ne correspondent pas à la même voiture...voir forme des phares et nez de capot...Je pensais avoir trouvé: une FORD V8 91A de 1939 mais si la forme des ailes AV et des phares encastrés sont identiques, en revanche la forme de nez de capot semble un peu plus à angle droit que sur la Ford (source: AutoHistoire N°14 edition EPA)...alors?....pas évident!...le guide EPA rappelle qu' il existait 12 types de carrosseries différentes dans la gamme Ford 1939!.. |

A Nash Ambassador Eight Touring Sedan of 1940 on the 125 inches wheelbase chassis .Lafayettes had a shorter wheelbase of 117 inches and were discontinued after the model year 1940 to be replaced by the Nash 600 in 1941. |

It´s not 1940, this one has got the shape of the 1939 frontfenders with the more "laidback" headlights, more square in shape. And it lacks the Nash emblem on the side of the hood up front, it probably would have been visible on this picture too. Ambassador or La Fayette is hard to tell, they look surprisingly similar on the pictures I´ve found, this one doesn´t look particlarly long and it seems quite basic in appearence. Couldn´t it be an Ambassador Six on the 121 inch wheelbase? |

DAF 555 is right ,at a second look it is a 1939 ,whose headlights were located higher in the front wings than in 1940 .In 1939 those headlights had a squarish design but this is difficult to see on the picture. Concerning the Nash emblem on the side of the hood upfront of the 1940 model , it was small and it would be hard to see on such a picture if it is present or absent. The car looks indeed rather basic having plain black tires and small wheel hubcaps. But concerning the distinction between Nash and Lafayette ,I remain in doubt mainly because of the wheelbase and fenders. Lafayettes rode on a short 117 inches wheelbase.They had a small Lafayette script behind the front fenders on the beltline , but again hard to find out on the picture .They had shorter front and rear fenders and hood than the Nashes.Many 1939 Lafayettes came as " Slipstream" back sedans rather than trunk sedans . Nashes of 1939 were all designed Ambassadors , but were either Ambassador sixes on a 121 inches wheelbase or Ambassador eights on a 125 inches wheelbase .The car here has a conventional trunk back ( "bustleback" trunk )and is obviously a Touring Sedan .So the debate remains open. Untill more data from Nash specialists would become available I would stick with Nash Ambassador but ok as a six touring sedan series 3920 of 1939 on the 121 inches chassis (at the moment being , but I am not infallible and will be glad to know the truth ). In any case ,I will have to see "The Aviator" once more! |

Alexander, (since I guess that it is you again the "guest" - but the problem can be the same if the "guest" is somebody else), one possible problem that I see is that you keep the page for a long time open before posting your message, then the session is closed between the loading of the page and the click on the "post" button. This time it was not me but perhaps pilou. But the last time it happend to me I kept it open for a rather long time. The same is true for the forum. Best you switch back to the old style, if that brings no other problems. |
