You can delete that + behind 1975. That number plate design was only used until the end of 1975.

For better visibility the goverment issued in 1976 bigger plates with more space between letters and numbers.

Are you sure? The newer TGL-plates and their letters and ciphers
(as https://imageshack.com/i/hlIOeKSNj )
are actually smaller than these ones. Not shorter, but lower.

I have to ask some of the plate experts. There is someone, who can allocate DDR-numbers by district, town, type of vehicle and year of registration.

I doubt that the plates you describe are smaller. But your picture shows again evidence that 1976+ had more space between letters and numbers. I mean XX[bigger space]00-00. All other spaces are rather normal and the visual difference is at the minimum.

This can be seen here very good: http://www.vanent.de/cms/index.php?seite=allgemeines That IB46-03 is visually different to the newer plates below. Also according to that page the difference is only two centimeters.

@Purzel89: sorry, but the TGL-plates are definitely lower than the old version. Their height is 9cm, as I just have checked on the plate of the previous link (yes, it's mine :) Originally form the head-CEO of Link to "de.wikipedia.org")

The old DDR-plates, as http://www.kennzeichenwelt.de/index.php?page=ddr-zoll (this is my other DDR-plate. I only collect West German plates from extinct districts) have a height of 12cm.
